Obazu Mbieri Community Celebrates Fish Day 2020 In Grand Style



It was a beehive of activities last Sunday when the people of Obazu autonomous community, Mbaitoli LGA,Imo State converged to celebrate their fish festival called Emume Azu, in local parlance.

The triennial festival held at the Obazu Community Grammar School Field ,Obazu Mbieri was graced by notable traditional rulers ,elderly and women who came out  en-mass  in their colourful reach-down attires topped off with hats and George's. 

The fish festival which commenced with people from the seven villages that make up the Obazu Mbieri assemble at Afor Obazu market square where drinks,cola  and various delicacies made of fish were served. 

Addressing the mammoth crowd,HRH Eze Francis Elendu,the Ezihi of Ezinihitte Mbieri autonomous community said the Azu Day festival is a seven-day event that is characterized by visitations, kindred meetings, cultural dances and masquerade display.

The monarch who was represented by the President General,PG of Obazu Town Union , TPL. Iheanyi Abaekume said It is pertinent to emphasize that Emume Obazu festival both in continent and practice is devoid of any fetish,pagan or  idol coloration,motive or undertone and that explains the reason why its activities is preceded with an inter denominational church service.

He said the program is celebrated on the last A for Obazo market day,in the year that it falls due. 

According to him,"This year's festival is being celebrated today,Sunday the 27th December, 2020."

Eze Elendu pointed out that the 2020   event  is the 15th Edition of the Azu festival which started 45years,precisely on 24thDecember,1975.

He explained that the event was conceived and reduced to practice by their forefathers principally as a platform for social interaction and demonstration of brotherly love among the people of Obazu.

Notable among dignitaries who graced the epoch making event were Rt Hon Okey Onyekanma,Chief Whip Imo Hose of Assembly, HRH Eze Reginald Amadi, HRH Eze Francis Ugorji among others too numerous to mention.
