Imo State Governor Signs New Law On Electricity

In a bid to transform Imo State's development landscape, Governor Hope Uzodimma has taken decisive steps by signing two crucial bills into law.

One bill focuses on revolutionizing the state's electricity sector, while the other aims to streamline the state's polytechnic education system.

In a press briefing held on Thursday, Governor Uzodimma emphasized the urgency of addressing the challenges plaguing Imo State's electricity generation and distribution.

He highlighted how these issues have hindered the state's progress and stressed the need for immediate action to pave the way for sustainable development.

As part of the initiative, the governor revealed plans to take over the Egbema Power Plant, a federal government project abandoned in 2006, with the aim of rehabilitating its facilities to solve the state's electricity challenges.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granting approval for this endeavor, aligning with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda.

Governor Uzodimma also addressed concerns regarding the state's polytechnic education system, citing the high financial burden of hosting multiple campuses.

The signing of the Imo State Polytechnic Amendment Bill aims to transition from a multi-campus to a mono-campus system, with the goal of improving student welfare and optimizing government resources.

Speaker Chike Olemgbe commended the rigorous scrutiny both bills underwent in the Imo State House of Assembly.

He highlighted how the electricity bill prioritizes improved power supply and distribution to communities, promising tangible benefits for residents.

With these legislative measures in place, Governor Uzodimma expressed optimism that within 12 months, Imo State will witness a significant transformation in power generation, supply, and consumption, as well as a more efficient polytechnic education system.
