Don't Use Political activities to interrupt Governance in Imo - Opara Warns , Vows to Sustain Imo’s Political Stability Ahead of 2027

Chief Perry Opara, the newly appointed Political Adviser to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma has expressed his profound appreciation for finding him worthy of such a significant role once again.

Speaking in his office at the Imo state government house,  Chief Opara said, “I want to start by thanking His Excellency for finding me worthy to head the political bureau. I have been an adviser in different capacities three times. This is my fourth time, and I feel deeply honoured that he has asked me to come on board again to advise him on politics, an area that is very familiar terrain to me.”

He commended Governor Uzodimma’s efforts at stabilising the state amidst earlier challenges. “I must give it to him it wasn’t easy trying to stabilise Imo State, but he has done it. Today, there is political stability, and the security situation has greatly improved. In terms of structural development, he has done wonders. Truly, he is the Road Master of our time.”

Reflecting on the meaning behind the governor’s name, Chief Opara noted, “His name, Uzodimma, means ‘good road’ In Imo today, that meaning is evident in every corner of the state. People from the Owerri Zone, Okigwe Zone, and Orlu Zone can all attest to that.”

Looking ahead to the political climate, especially with the 2027 general elections and the 2028 governorship transition in sight, Chief Opara acknowledged the responsibility before him. “As 2027 draws closer, I am saddled with the responsibility of controlling the political tempo in Imo. I intend to approach it with scientific methods and ensure that all Governor Uzodimma has achieved is not only sustained but strengthened.”

He recalled his active involvement in the governor’s re-election campaign and reiterated his commitment to preserving peace in the state. “We are going to maintain the current peaceful atmosphere, sustain it, and even improve it. Peace must not be superficial; it must be deep-rooted. We will discourage any attempts to overheat the polity through reckless political conduct.”

On governance, Chief Opara stressed the importance of allowing political activities to progress without interrupting government operations. “Politics should not interrupt governance. We want a seamless flow where government continues to function effectively while politics takes its course. Our goal is to preserve this administration’s legacy, one that future generations will recognise.”

He also praised the quality of infrastructure, particularly roads, being delivered under Governor Uzodimma’s leadership. “Some of these roads have withstood tests from environmental elements, like acid rain, and have remained solid. That proves the quality of the work being done. Long after Governor Uzodimma has left office, these roads will still be there symbols of a time Imo moved forward.”

He promised to build stronger synergy among critical stakeholders in the state. “Town unions, traditional rulers, local government authorities we are  bringing everyone on board. There must be unified engagement and collaboration to move Imo forward.”

Describing the governor as a political colossus, Chief Opara concluded: “Our governor is not just leading Imo; he’s a national force. As Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and a leader in both the South East and South South, he plays a vital role at the national level. He is a giant in both the sub-national and national space.”

He pledged that under his advisory, Governor Uzodimma would remain proud of Imo’s political and developmental direction. “Wherever he is, we will ensure he is calm, fulfilled, and proud of the Imo he has helped shape.”

With his resumption as the governor's Special Adviser on Political matters, Chief Perry Opara’s return signals a calculated and strategic effort to keep Imo’s political space balanced, focused, and forward-moving as the 2027 political calendar begins to unfold.
