The Honourable Commissioner for Livestock Development in Imo State, Hon. Dr. Anthony Mgbeahuruike, alongside key officials from his ministry, undertook an inspection visit to the Achara Ugbo Farm, situated in Emekeuku, Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
During the visit, the Commissioner interacted with Engr. Emeka Iroh, a representative of the Janpur Group, the investors currently working on reviving the moribund agricultural facility. Engr. Iroh informed the Honourable Commissioner that clearing and rehabilitation of the premises were already underway.
He further emphasised the group's readiness to introduce livestock into the facility and commence full-scale operations in alignment with the Shared Prosperity administration of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
It would be recalled that the Imo State Government under the leadership of Governor Uzodimma had initiated a strategic restoration plan aimed at reviving several State-owned industries and agricultural establishments. This includes the Achara Ugbo Farm, the Standard Dies Factory, and the Nsu Textiles, among others. The objective of this initiative is to boost the state's internally generated revenue and create job opportunities for Imo citizens.
The partnership between the state government and Janpur Group seeks to make the Achara Ugbo Farm not only functional once again but also a thriving hub for livestock production. The investors are also committed to developing the farm’s entire value chain, which is critical to ensuring sustainability and economic viability.
Commissioner Mgbeahuruike, while touring the facility in the company of the investors and ministry staff, commended Governor Uzodimma for his visionary leadership in entrusting the farm to capable private sector hands.
He expressed optimism that such partnerships will go a long way in generating employment opportunities for the people of Imo State and significantly contribute to the enhancement of the state's internally generated revenue.
