IMO CITY TRANSPORT EXECUTIVES PAY COURTESY VISIT TO DSS DIRECTOR IN OWERRI

In a significant move towards strengthening security collaboration in Imo State, the President of Imo City Transport, Engr. Nwosu Onyedikachi (popularly known as Shinkachy), alongside his newly inaugurated executive members, paid an official courtesy visit to the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Imo State Command, Owerri, on Tuesday, 17th June 2025.

The visit, held at the DSS State Headquarters, was aimed at fostering synergy between the transport union and security operatives in addressing rising concerns over the misuse of tricycles (popularly known as Keke) and mini buses for criminal activities including kidnapping, organ harvesting, and other related crimes within the state.

During the meeting, Engr. Nwosu expressed deep concern over the spate of insecurity linked to the transport sector, particularly the negative perception surrounding Keke buses. He assured the DSS Director that under his leadership, Imo City Transport would take concrete steps to regulate operations, implement safety measures, and flush out criminal elements hiding under the guise of transport operators.

He further pledged the commitment of his executive team to work closely with the security agencies and introduce strategic reforms, such as the centralised database capturing of all legitimate transport operators and the possible adoption of a uniform colour code for easy identification of authorised vehicles across the state.

In response, the DSS Director expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a commendable and timely initiative. He lauded the proactive approach of the union leadership and reaffirmed the readiness of the DSS to collaborate with Imo City Transport in maintaining peace and security. He also encouraged the executives to sustain their engagement with security agencies for continuous improvement of the transport sector.

Also speaking during the visit, the Vice President of Imo City Transport, Hon. Elder Ukawunne Anaelechi (Bowo), echoed the president’s concerns and called for modernised strategies in managing the transport system to combat insecurity. He advocated for immediate adoption of reforms that would prioritise the safety of commuters and transport operators.

The Public Relations Officer of the union, Comrade Chidiebere Umunnakwe, thanked the DSS for their warm reception and assured them of maximum cooperation from all members of Imo City Transport. He reiterated the union’s dedication to supporting the state government’s efforts towards a safer Imo.

All branch executives of the Imo City Transport National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were in attendance, demonstrating unity and resolve to work as partners in progress with security agencies and the state government.

Engr. Nwosu concluded the visit by appreciating the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo, for trusting the union executives with the mandate to lead. He equally extended profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma CON, describing him as the "Infrastructural Governor of our time" and “Road Master,” whose commitment to governance has repositioned the state for development.

With renewed commitment and partnership, Imo City Transport and the DSS look forward to achieving a safer and more organised transport system in the state.
