The Imo State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its relentless fight against kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and other violent crimes across the state, with the arrest of 928 suspects and the rescue of several victims within the last six months.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, Owerri, on Thursday, 24th October 2025.
According to CP Danjuma, the achievements were made possible through the coordinated and intelligence-driven operations of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, whose proactive strategies led to the dismantling of several criminal syndicates terrorising residents in different parts of the state.
During the period under review, the Command successfully rescued nine kidnapped victims and seven stolen children, all of whom have been reunited with their families. The Police also recovered 17 firearms, 72 rounds of ammunition, 673 live cartridges, and nine stolen motorcycles. Other exhibits recovered included improvised explosive devices (IEDs), charms, laptops, counterfeit currency, and hard drugs.
One of the most notable successes was the arrest of a notorious six-man kidnap gang comprising Chijioke Nwakaudu, Chibuike Ajaere, Richard Ugochukwu, Chuka Anene, Christian Emekwe, and Emeka Emezume, who had long terrorised communities in Imo and Anambra States. Their arrest led to further discoveries in Obosi, Anambra State, where the Police recovered seven AK-47 rifles, nine pump-action guns, four pistols, 250 rounds of GPMG ammunition, 910 cartridges, and bags of suspected hard drugs.
The suspects reportedly confessed to several kidnapping incidents, including that of Ugochukwu Favour Nwachinemere, aged 25, from Ikembara in Ikeduru Local Government Area, for which a ransom of ₦5 million was paid, as well as the abduction of Mr. Ikechukwu on 9th October 2025.
Commending the gallant officers and men of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for their professionalism and commitment, CP Danjuma urged Imo residents to continue collaborating with the Police by providing credible and timely information that would aid in sustaining the ongoing fight against crime.
He reassured the public that the Command remains steadfast in its mission to ensure the safety of lives and property and maintain peace and security across Imo State.
The briefing was concluded with an appeal from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, anipr, who reaffirmed the Command’s determination to keep Imo safe through continuous community partnership and intelligence sharing.
