It was a moment of excitement and deep emotion in Owerri, Imo State, on Thursday, October 30, 2025, as Distinguished Senator Osita Bonaventure Izunaso, OFR, NPOM, demonstrated once again his heart of compassion and service to humanity. Through his renowned humanitarian organisation, the Kpakpando Foundation for Persons with Disabilities, the Senator empowered over one hundred persons with disabilities during a grand ceremony that also marked his 59th birthday and the 20th anniversary of the foundation.
The colourful event, held at the Orient TV/Radio premises, Akanchawa Udenwa Road, Owerri, drew dignitaries, disability advocates, community leaders, and supporters from across the country. It was a double celebration that reflected the Senator’s lifelong commitment to empowering the less privileged and promoting inclusive development.
One of the most emotional highlights of the day was the presentation of brand new mini buses and cars to several persons living with disabilities, including a deaf and dumb woman, whose joy and tears of gratitude moved everyone present. The beneficiaries also received other empowerment items aimed at supporting their economic independence and enhancing their quality of life.
Senator Izunaso, who represents Imo West Senatorial District (Orlu Zone Extraction) in the Senate, expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to celebrate another year of life by giving back to society. He reaffirmed his passion for improving the lives of vulnerable persons, noting that the success of the Kpakpando Foundation over the past two decades stands as proof that disability is not inability.
The anniversary, themed “Twenty Years of Hope and Impact: Redefining Disability Inclusion in Nigeria,” served as a platform to review the foundation’s achievements and renew its commitment to promoting equal opportunities for all citizens.
Beneficiaries and well-wishers poured encomiums on the Senator for his generosity and consistency in empowering the poor and vulnerable, describing him as a true servant leader who continues to touch lives beyond political boundaries.
Media organisations including ImoNews, Announcer Express, Lead Express, Big Truth Newspaper, and others who covered the event commended Senator Izunaso’s extraordinary humanitarian contributions, noting that his efforts have become a model of genuine public service and community impact.
The high point of the celebration was the presentation of two cars to a physically challenged man and woman, which symbolised the Senator’s belief in inclusivity and empowerment for all.
The ceremony concluded with music, prayers, and goodwill messages from dignitaries, disability advocates, and friends of the foundation, all celebrating a man whose life continues to redefine service, compassion, and hope for persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
