The Imo State Police Command has continued to intensify its fight against crime and insecurity, recording remarkable operational breakthroughs across the state. Within the past month, operatives of the Command’s Quick Intervention Team (QIT) and Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested no fewer than thirty (30) suspects for offences ranging from armed robbery and car snatching to cultism and unlawful possession of firearms. The operations also led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, three stolen vehicles, and two motorcycles.
According to a press statement issued on Tuesday, 11th November 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, the Command’s proactive measures have yielded tangible results following prompt responses to distress calls and effective intelligence gathering.
One of the major operations was recorded on 7th November 2025, at about 7:00 p.m., when armed hoodlums attacked and snatched a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 with registration number ABC-10CG from one Chukwuebuka and his friends around Ikenegbu by Holy Family Catholic Hospital, Owerri. Acting swiftly on a distress call, the QIT operatives tracked the stolen vehicle towards Okigwe Road and recovered it around 10:30 p.m. The operatives also arrested one suspect, Adamu Sani, a male from Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, who confessed to the crime and named his accomplices as Abdullahi, Emmanuel, and Emeka, all of whom are currently on the run.
Similarly, on 8th November 2025, at about 3:00 a.m., QIT operatives recovered a black Toyota Hilux with registration number NEM-14AG, reportedly stolen from a hotel in Rivers State. The vehicle was abandoned around New Owerri by De Angels at about 5:00 a.m. On the same day, a Toyota Venza earlier snatched at New Owerri by De Compound on 7th November 2025, was recovered abandoned at Yar’Adua Drive by Chosen Church around 5:30 p.m. All recovered vehicles have since been identified by their owners, while manhunt operations continue to track down the fleeing suspects.
In another development, on 2nd November 2025, at about 8:30 a.m., operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) conducting a routine stop-and-search along Owerri/Aba Road intercepted two young men travelling in a commercial bus to Owerri. Upon searching the suspects, the police recovered a cut-to-size locally fabricated double-barrel gun loaded with three live cartridges.
The suspects were identified as Uchechukwu Ahamefule (25 years) and Miracle Eberechi (28 years), both from Ogbu Umuorji, Osisioma, Abia State. During interrogation, they confessed to being members of the Vikings/Bagar confraternity cult group, admitting that they had seized the weapon from a rival cult group in Aba for self-defence purposes. The case, according to the police, is currently under investigation as efforts intensify to arrest other members of the syndicate.
While commending the gallantry and professionalism of the operatives involved, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining its proactive policing strategy aimed at flushing out criminal elements and restoring lasting peace across Imo State. He called on residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of the police by providing credible information that could aid crime prevention and investigation.
DSP Henry Okoye assured that the Command would continue to collaborate with community stakeholders and security agencies to ensure the safety and security of all residents across the state.
