Jubilation as Amato Crowns New Traditional Ruler in Historic Coronation Ceremony

 




Amato Community was filled with jubilation, cultural splendour and a deep sense of history as sons and daughters of the land, along with invited guests from within and outside Imo State, gathered to witness the successful coronation of a new traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Eze Michael Utoko Iroanunam Obioma Ogbonna, Eze Ohachoro II. 


Friday, 26 December 2025, marked another defining moment in the history of Amato as kindreds gathered, one after the other, in unity and celebration to behold the coronation of His Royal Highness Eze Michael Utoko Iroanunam Obioma Ogbonna, Eze Ohachoro II, as the traditional ruler of Amato Alike Autonomous Community, Ikenanzizi, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.




The historic ceremony took place at Community Secondary School, Amato Alike Obowo, which was colourfully decorated to reflect the rich cultural heritage and royal dignity of the community. From the early hours of the day, the venue witnessed a massive influx of community members, cultural groups, age grades, women associations and well wishers who came to identify with the new era of leadership in Amato.


The coronation procession was greeted with cheers and applause as traditional music, dance displays, added colour and excitement to the occasion. 


The atmosphere reflected a strong sense of unity and renewed hope, as the people openly expressed joy over the successful enthronement of their God ordained king.

Dignitaries from different walks of life graced the occasion, lending prestige and honour to the ceremony. 


Among them were the Senator representing Okigwe Zone at the Nigeria green Chamber, Senator Patrick Ndubueze, members of the Imo State House of Assembly including the lawmaker representing Obowo State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh, Imo State APC youth leader, Hon. Udoka Iwueke, Obowo LGA Chairman, former commissioners, Councilor representing Alike ward, Comrade Chinosom Collins Iwueke, government stakeholders, traditional rulers from neighbouring communities, political leaders, captains of industry and religious leaders.



In his welcome address, the President General of Amato Alike Autonomous Community, High Chief Kelechi Festus Nwokonna, expressed gratitude to God Almighty for making the day a reality. He thanked the entire community, the Central Coronation Committee and all sub committees for their tireless efforts in ensuring a successful and peaceful coronation. According to him, the unity displayed by the people of Amato during the preparation and execution of the event showed the strength and maturity of the community.




High Chief Nwokonna described the emergence of Eze Ohachoro II as a blessing to Amato, noting that the new monarch possesses the wisdom, humility and leadership qualities required to move the community forward. He urged the people to continue to support the traditional institution and to rally around the Eze in the spirit of peace and cooperation.


Speaking at the event, several dignitaries congratulated the new traditional ruler and the people of Amato for a peaceful transition. They described traditional institutions as vital partners in grassroots development and community cohesion, urging Eze Ohachoro II to use his reign to promote unity, security and development within Amato and its environs.


In his address, His Royal Highness Eze Michael Utoko Iroanunam Obioma Ogbonna, Eze Ohachoro II, expressed profound gratitude to God, the elders, kingmakers and the entire Amato community for the trust reposed in him. He described his coronation as a collective victory for the people and pledged to rule with fairness, justice and the fear of God.


The royal father assured that his reign would be anchored on peace, respect for tradition and inclusive development. He called on all sons and daughters of Amato, both at home and in the diaspora, to join hands with him in building a stronger, united and progressive community. According to him, development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and mutual understanding.


The event also featured goodwill messages from political leaders, community organisations, age grades and families, all of whom pledged their support to the throne. Cultural troupes entertained guests with traditional dances that reflected the heritage and identity of Amato people, while prayers were offered for a peaceful and prosperous reign.


The ceremony was further enriched with the conferral of chieftaincy titles on distinguished individuals who have, over the years, demonstrated exceptional commitment to the service of humanity. 




The honourees, drawn from Amato Alike Autonomous Community and beyond, were recognised for their selfless contributions to community development, philanthropy, leadership, peace building and socio economic advancement.

The chieftaincy conferrals served as a mark of appreciation by the traditional institution for individuals whose positive impact has uplifted lives and promoted the values of unity and progress. 


The newly installed chiefs, clad in traditional regalia, pledged their loyalty to the throne and their readiness to continue supporting the development aspirations of Amato Alike Autonomous Community under the reign of His Royal Highness Eze Michael Utoko Iroanunam Obioma Ogbonna, Eze Ohachoro II.


The colourful coronation ceremony, combined with the chieftaincy installations, reinforced the enduring relevance of the traditional institution as a pillar of culture, honour and community development, leaving indelible memories in the hearts of all who witnessed the historic occasion.
