The Ike Odoeme Foundation Joins Stakeholders as Imo Marks 2025 World AIDS Day with Roadshow, Advocacy Visits


 



The 2025 World AIDS Day was commemorated in Imo State today with a large turnout of partners, volunteers and community stakeholders, as The Ike Odoeme Foundation joined the Imo State Ministry of Health and other development organisations to intensify awareness on HIV prevention, testing and treatment.




The event, held under the global theme Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response, began with a roadshow that took off from Owerri City Primary School by Fire Service and moved through major streets to Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri. Participants engaged residents with information on HIV prevention, free testing opportunities and the importance of ending discrimination against people living with HIV.




Beyond the roadshow, the day featured a series of targeted advocacy visits to key institutions across the state. Delegates visited the Office of the Deputy Governor of Imo State, the Vice Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, the Chairman House Committee on Health, and other critical stakeholders involved in health policy implementation and community outreach.




The Ike Odoeme Foundation described the day’s activities as a strategic push to strengthen partnerships and drive sustained action across the health sector. 


The Foundation reiterated its commitment to community health education, support for vulnerable populations and collaboration with government agencies to expand access to life-saving health services.


Today’s commemoration was organised by the Imo State Ministry of Health in partnership with: World Health Organization, Red Cross,Caritas Nigeria, State Agency for the Control of AIDS and other health programmes, Papa Onyeze Women Empowerment and Belief Foundation,Silver Lining for the Needy Initiative,Circuit Pointe, Youth Awake for Better Society, and The Ike Odoeme Foundation.


Prominent representatives at the event including those from  the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, The Ike Odoeme Foundation,  the Red Cross, Caritas Nigeria, 


Speaking during the advocacy visits, partners emphasised the need for increased investment in HIV response, improved access to testing and treatment, and sustained community sensitisation. They noted that despite disruptions caused by economic challenges and limited resources, a stronger and more coordinated response is still achievable.


The 2025 World AIDS Day activities in Imo State concluded with renewed commitments from stakeholders to support programmes aimed at ending AIDS as a public health threat and promoting a healthier and more informed society.
