Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has charged the newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries in the state civil service to strengthen discipline, improve productivity and uphold the confidence reposed in them by the government.
Uzodimma gave the charge on Friday, October 2, 2026, during the swearing-in ceremony of 20 Permanent Secretaries at the New Exco Chambers, Government House, Owerri.
The Governor urged the new Permanent Secretaries to see themselves as representatives of the civil service and partners in the implementation of government policies, stressing that their responsibility goes beyond managing infrastructure and physical projects.
He said the intangible achievements of any government, including the effectiveness, integrity and professionalism of its civil service, were equally important.
According to him, the appointees must demonstrate discipline and a strong commitment to productivity, adding that the government would expect them to justify the confidence placed in them.
“Whether government is a bad one or anything, you cannot work against it. You represent the nation of civil service,” the Governor said.
Uzodimma also disclosed that his administration had introduced computer-based tests in previous recruitment exercises as part of efforts to improve the quality of the civil service.
He cautioned the new Permanent Secretaries against betraying the confidence of government, stressing that those entrusted with responsibility must work to strengthen, rather than undermine, the system.
Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries, Chinyere Ibe, Esq., expressed gratitude to God and Governor Hope Uzodimma for the opportunity to serve the state. She assured the Governor that they would justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating discipline, integrity, loyalty and productivity.
