Former member of Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala House of Representatives, in National Assembly, Hon Greg Egu has said he would only support the clamour for Igbo presidency if the position is micro-zoned to the southeast.
Hon Egu who is also a People's Democratic Party stalwart in Imo state, said Ex-Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar remained the best candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress if the party is desirous of winning the 2023 election.
The Ngor-Okpala born politician who stated this while fielding question from newsmen Ngor-Okpala recently said the only way a Southeast person can be a president of this country is an arrangement with a man like Atiku who can handle it and hand over to an Igbo man after his tenure.
Egu opined that the Igbo presidency would not be realised under the present All Progressives Congress zoning arrangement.
He noted that zoning of APC presidential ticket to south was not enough for Igbo people to get the position. According to him the north would want to support any candidate from the southwest for supporting them in 2015.
According to him," You know the Igbos didn't not give President Buhari massive support but the southwest did. So their plan was to zone it to the south so that the north will support the any southwest candidate to emerge the president.
'If they are sincere they should micro-zone the presidency to the southeast and most of us will support it. Aside that I will not support it
He disclosed that Igbos will get the presidency under an arrangement in PDP. He said Igbos need to support Atiku so that Atiku will hand over power to them.
For now we need one who is magnanimous enough to situate Nigeria that is at the verge of collapse. There is an arrangement that Atiku will hand over to the Igbos.
Diffusing the claims that Atiku is old, the former Imo state coordinator Atiku for president said his boss is strong energetic and mentally alert to lead the country. He added that Atiku has over twenty employees in his payroll.
His words," If PDP Micro-zone presidency to the South East region, I will go along with it but if my party zone to the South I'm not going to support it. My reason is that Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was there for 8 years and prof Yemi Osinbanjo is also doing another 8years as a Vice President of Nigeria from Southwest region.
" Former President Goodluck Jonathan who is from the South/South region was there for 6 years. He was also a vice to president Musa Yar'adua. Now the question is as a member of the opposition party called PDP who is going to win the presidential election if nominated? The answer is Atiku.
'If you go with the sentiment and nominate somebody who cannot win a national election, PDP remains in opposition and that doesn't pay me, it doesn't pay you as a member of the opposition party and it pays nobody .
"So my opinion is that we should nominate somebody who can situate Nigeria. As it is now Nigeria is running and we need a businessman who understands business to do this business .We also need someone who is liberal minded , one who believes that all Nigerians are brothers and sister.
