Comrade Humphrey Osuji, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Imo State Chapter, has vehemently condemned the recent attack and brutal murder of personnel from Mobile Police Force 18 stationed in Owerri.
The assailants, suspected to be affiliated with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), ambushed the officers during their patrol duties along the old Gariki Road in Okigwe.
In a statement released by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Okoye Henry, it was revealed that the officers fell victim to the assailants' ambush in the early hours of March 23, 2024. The attackers targeted the patrol vehicle, hurling dynamite at it, and engaging the officers in a prolonged exchange of gunfire. Tragically, two officers lost their lives in the attack, while four others managed to survive.
Expressing his solidarity with the law enforcement community, Osuji commended the efforts of the current Commissioner of Police for Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, in addressing the escalating security challenges in the region.
Osuji also seized the opportunity to call upon the youth of Imo State to actively support security agencies in their fight against crime and insecurity. He emphasized that violence and bloodshed are not part of their cultural heritage, urging those involved in such acts to reconsider their actions and embrace peace.
As the state grapples with rising insecurity, Osuji's appeal for unity and collaboration underscores the urgency of addressing these challenges collectively, with a concerted effort from all stakeholders in the community.
