Imo College of Nursing Sciences holds her 1st Convocation, 10th Matriculation ceremony in style.

 



The inaugural Convocation and the illustrious 10th Matriculation ceremony of Imo State College of Nursing Sciences unfolded on  March 27th, 2024, on the picturesque grounds of Orlu, Imo State. 


The day commenced with a grand procession, featuring  academic staff, students, proud parents, and distinguished guests, parading from the main administrative block to the Matriculation ground, setting the stage for an auspicious occasion.


In her opening address, the  Provost of the college, Mrs. Offor Hannah, proudly announced the college's milestone achievements, including the accreditation of two departments of midwifery at Aboh Mbaise and Awo Omamma. She attributed this success to the unwavering support of the shared prosperity administration led by Senator Hope Uzodimma, which facilitated the re-accreditation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) in 2023.


Mrs. Offor emphasized the college's commitment to maintaining exemplary academic standards, ensuring that upon graduation, students would be equipped with the skills and qualifications to serve as registered Nurses, midwives, public health Nurses, and HND Degree holders, eligible for participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).


However, she candidly addressed the challenges facing the institution, calling upon governmental bodies, philanthropic individuals, and corporate entities to extend their support towards the construction of essential infrastructure, including a construction of  250-capacity ICT center for CBT examination,  a 150KVA Soundproof generator, a 500-capacity auditorium, and the provision of serviceable vehicles for the management staff.


Concluding her address, Mrs. Offor appealed to the esteemed guests to continue championing the cause of the nursing institution, ensuring its continuous growth and development, as their graduates embark on their journey to contribute to global healthcare provision.


In his remarks, Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, the Chairman of the occasion, hailed the event as a significant academic milestone, underscoring its unique combination of Convocation and Matriculation ceremonies. He commended the college's leadership for fostering a conducive learning environment and urged the students to uphold the institution's  reputation.


Representing the Governor of Imo State, Barrister Chinyere Ibe expressed the governor's unwavering commitment to education and pledged continued support to the college's pursuit of excellence.


During her enlightening lecture, the distinguished guest lecturer, Rev. Dr. Lauretta Madu, lauded the ongoing reforms in healthcare, emphasizing the imperative for nurses to adapt and excel in this evolving landscape, ultimately enhancing global healthcare standards.


Among the notable dignitaries in attendance were representative of Honorable High Chief Canice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachukwu (Omeogo, Ogbaturuenyi Na Orlu), representing Orlu, Orsu, and Oru East Federal Constituency, Evang. Magnus Nnadi, representing Orlu state constituency, Barrister Ikenna Ihezuo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Barrister Chinyere Ibe, and the esteemed guest lecturer, Rev. Dr. Lauretta Madu, Acting Registrar of the college, Mr. Kennedy Duru, among others, adding prestige to the occasion with their presence.
