AYICRIP, RULAAC, Imo Police Command Holds one day Workshop on Insecurity, Crime prevention in Imo.

 





In a groundbreaking collaboration, the African Youths Initiative On Crime Prevention (AYICRIP), in partnership with the Rule of Law And Accountability Advocacy Center (RULAAC) and the Nigerian Police Force, Imo State Command, convened a one day workshop with Imo State Police, Youth, and Women Dialogue on Insecurity and Crime Prevention in Owerri on Thursday, May 23, 2024. 


The dialogue, themed "Addressing Insecurity And Crime Prevention Through Partnership Building," marked a significant milestone in fostering cooperation among key stakeholders.



This event which took place at Rock view hotel Owerri Imo State, had in attendance traditional rulers, youth leaders , women leaders , security personnels, students leaders and Journalist in the state. 


In his opening remarks, Ambassador Chris Chidi Ibeh, the Executive Director of AYICRIP and the convener of the dialogue, expressed profound appreciation to Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, for his exemplary leadership in maintaining security and peace in Imo State.



 He used the opportunity, to urged all participants especially Imo youths to harness their energy, creativity, and passion to contribute to a safe and sustainable environment, while also acknowledging the crucial role of women as caregivers and community builders in ensuring security.


Furthermore, Ibeh proposed the establishment of a Police and Youth Accountability Forum post-dialogue, with CP Danjuma as Admin and youth and women leaders as Co-Admins, to facilitate swift information exchange and response to security issues, an ideal generally accepted by all the participants. 


Also, Mr Okechukwu Nwanguma, the Executive Director of RULAAC, emphasized the importance of partnership and collective action in addressing insecurity, highlighting socio-economic and political factors as root causes. He called for strategic interventions, including youth and community engagement, to tackle these underlying issues.



Delivery the  keynote address, was Dr. Emmanuel Ibeh, a retired Director from the Police Service Commission, who underscored the necessity of a harmonious relationship between the police and society for effective security and crime prevention. He advocated for improved police welfare and urged the public to support law enforcement efforts.


CP Aboki Danjuma, represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Edwin J. M who first thank the groups for award they gave to Imo state police command through the CP of Imo State while he  expressed gratitude for the initiative and emphasized the need for collective responsibility in combating insecurity. He condemned the involvement of youths in criminal activities and urged them to collaborate with the police for a safer society.


Still speaking at the occasion, the CP representative, liked the important of police in the nation to be like water that everybody use. He urged the youth to shun evil and join hand with police in the fight against insecurity and crime in the society.   


"When all of you are sleeping, police is awake, for you to sleep well, when you are fighting with anyone you will call police, please watch the back of police officers while we protect you in the society" He asserted. 


Comrade Humphrey Osuji, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYAN) Imo State Chapter, commended the governor and CP Danjuma for their efforts in addressing security challenges. He highlighted the importance of youth inclusion in decision-making processes and called for empowerment opportunities.


Comrade Obi Okechukwu Anthony, National President of the National Association of Imo State Students (NAISS), raised concerns about alleged police harassment of students and advocated for collaborative campus safety initiatives.


The dialogue concluded with a commitment from all stakeholders to work together to address security concerns and promote peace and stability in Imo State.


The high point of the dialogue was the presentation of an award to Commissioner of police Imo state by the group of which according to them for a work well done.
