Secondary School Principals in Imo to write CBT Exam

In line with modern day best practices and in a bid to ensure administrative proficiency, Secondary School Principals in Imo State will undertake  computer based examination for them to be re-appointed as principals.

The Executive Secretary Imo State Secondary Education Management Board, SEMB,Dame Augustina Azubuike, disclosed this during a meeting held with secondary school principals on tuesday July 29,2025 at Government College Owerri.

She hinted that the CBT exam is a directive from the Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education,Prof.B.T.O.Ikegwuoha, stressing that it is compulsory and a prerequisite for appointment and re-appointment as a principal in the state.

She noted that the examination is for grade level 15 and16 who are qualified to be appointed principals in the school system.

The workaholic education secretary revealed that the examination will assess candidates knowledge, skills, and comptences in  school administration, leadership and computer proficiency.

The source further hinted that for a candidate to be eligible to be appointed as a principal of Junior secondary school,he or she must earn between 60-79%,while those seeking for principalship at the Senior secondary section must score  80-100%.

The SEMB Boss urged them to take the exam serious, pointing out that the world has moved out of  old order and now digitalised. She frowned at situation where some principals find it difficult to buy data to access information from their phones, but spend money on biscuits, chewing gums and other less important things and insisted that they should write the exam.

Journaists gathered that some school principals are not comfortable with the proposed CBT exam,as some of them queried the rationale behind a level 16 officer in the civil service who has gotten to the climax of his profession taking exam. Some who spoke to journalists on grounds of anonymity advised that the exam should be for intending principals.

The SEMB Boss, appreciated the principals that they have come to the end of the academic session, and advised them to take adequate care of school property as they go for holiday.
