In a peaceful and well-attended general assembly, the people of Amato Autonomous Community have elected Chief Kelechi Nwokonna as their new President General (PG). The election, which took place amid unity and mutual understanding among the three constituent villages, recorded a remarkable outcome as Chief Nwokonna emerged unopposed.
The new PG was elected alongside other executive officers who will steer the affairs of the community for the next term. The exercise, conducted in accordance with the community’s constitution and zoning arrangement, was widely applauded by elders, youth representatives, and observers present at the venue.
Recall that the zoning provision in Amato’s community constitution mandates that the offices of Eze and President General must not be occupied by individuals from the same village simultaneously. With the current Eze from Ngali and the immediate past PG also from Ngali, the path was constitutionally clear for another village to take the mantle. Chief Nwokonna, who hails from Umuchienwanyi, emerged as a consensus candidate, reinforcing the community’s commitment to fairness and rotational leadership.
