In commemoration of the AFRICAN Vaccination Week and the National Immunization Plus Days, the Hon Commissioner for Health Primary Healthcare, Social Services and Health Insurance, Dr. Chioma Vivian Egu has called on the leadership of the Traditional Institutions, Faith based Organations and Youth bodies to join in spreading the message of vaccination within their communities, churches and other social gatherings.
The Hon Commissioner made the call during the press conference which is one the program scheduled to mark the African Vaccination Week and the National Immunization Plus Days.
Dr. Egu who decribed this year’s theme “Immunisation for All is Humanly Possible” as a bold affirmation of what we can achieve through unity, commitment, and a shared determination to protect lives, acknowledged the unwavering support of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, for priotizing health as a key pillar of human capital development.
While commending the continued collaboration of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners, for their technical expertise, advocacy, and logistical support, which she said has been instrumental in strengthening the immunization efforts in the State. She further stated that this year’s campaign would intensified immunization outreach across all 27 LGAs, focusing on communities with low coverage and hard-to-reach areas.
The celebration started with a road walk from the Government House Chapel to Secretariat Extension, Ikemba Ojukwu Center which staff of the Ministry, the Imo State Primary Health Care Development Agency and WHO actively participated.
In a related event, the Hon. Commissioner for Health Primary Healthcare Social Services and Health, Dr Chioma Vivian Egu has admonished mother's to disregard the false information being spread across the social media with regards to vaccines.
The Hon.gave the advice during the flag off ceremony for National Immunization Plus Days at the Owerri Municipal Primary Health Center.
She encouraged the mothers to ensure that they immunized for the benefits of having healthy children.
The Executive Secretary of the Imo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Rev. Sr.Dr. Maria Joaness Uzoma enjoined the mothers to also help spread the message of vaccinating the child by encourage other mothers who reloctant to get their children immunized.
The State Coordinator of the WHO, Dr. Watzingi William Bassey while reiterating their commitment to partnering with the State, stated the the two observances are more than symblic events, but a call to action across all States and Regions.
The Ag. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Francis Alocha and the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Opara Ihunna Victoria were also at the event.
