The management and members of Owerri Club have unanimously rejected the purported Interim Management Committee led by Obinwa Onyewuchi, reaffirming their full support for the leadership of Chief Charles Okeke.
In a strong response to what has been described as an attempt to destabilize the Club’s established governance structure, the Club has announced the indefinite suspension of Onyewuchi and members of the claimed interim committee.
In a communiqué issued by the Club’s Secretary, Hon. R. C. Omeaku, following an emergency general meeting attended by two members of the Board of Trustees and over 50 members, the Club condemned the alleged removal of the Charles Okeke-led executive.
The statement described the installation of an interim committee as a clear violation of the Club’s constitution, noting that the Rules Book contains no provision for such a body. The move was characterized as a “malicious coup” against the legitimate leadership, it stated. The meeting however unanimously resolved to indefinitely suspend all individuals involved in what it termed an unconstitutional attempt to seize control of the Club’s administration.
The motion, which also included a resolution to enforce stricter access control by limiting entry to a single designated point, was seconded by Barr. Chukwuemeka Enwereuzor and passed without opposition.
Those suspended include:
Obinwa Onyebuchi; Ik Ogbonna;
Emeka Onyema; Chief Emma Ebili and Chief Chidi Anyaso
With this resolution, the Club aims to restore order and reaffirm its commitment to upholding constitutional processes and leadership integrity.
