In a significant show of political solidarity and inclusivity, the Yoruba Political Support Group has pledged loyalty and support to the government of Governor Hope Uzodimma, describing him as a decentralised leader who has opened up governance and created room for effective grassroots engagement.
The group made this known during a courtesy visit to Chief Perry Opara, the Chief Political Adviser and Head of Political Bureau Imo state government, at his office in Owerri. The visit was aimed at strengthening interethnic political collaboration and aligning their developmental vision with the progress already achieved by the Uzodimma-led administration.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Arc. Adedeji Osinowo, the convener of the Yoruba Political Support Group, praised the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance and infrastructural renewal across Imo State.
“Governor Uzodimma is a decentralised governor. We are available to work with your office and the state government. You have come back and created a feedback mechanism, the first of its kind. We will support you and remain loyal to your vision for Imo State,” he said.
Osinowo further noted the industrious spirit of the Yoruba people and stressed that their involvement in Imo politics is issue-based, not transactional. “We are not doing rice-and-beans politics. We are here with ideas, not stomach infrastructure. The governor has changed the outlook of Imo State. We are determined to make a difference,” he added.
Also speaking, the Director General of the group, Barrister Adedeji Alabi, highlighted their contributions in human capital development and women empowerment. “We have been actively involved in empowering indigent women and building capacity for grassroots growth. We believe in transformational politics, not divisive rhetoric,” he remarked.
Responding to the group’s address, Chief Perry Opara expressed profound appreciation for their visit, describing it as timely and encouraging.
“You are the first group to visit me officially in this office. I appreciate your coming. You have demonstrated leadership and sincerity. Yoruba people are industrious and trustworthy, and I commend you for being law-abiding citizens in Imo State,” Opara said.
He reiterated that the Uzodimma administration values all ethnic nationalities resident in the state and is committed to policies that promote peaceful coexistence, inclusivity, and development.
“What this government has done in the area of infrastructural development, peace, and political balance is a testament to the governor’s love for the people. I urge you to put your ideas together, join hands with us, and let us make Imo State better,” Opara concluded.
The high point of the meeting was the decoration of Chief Perry Opara with two pairs of traditional Yoruba wrappers and a cap, symbolising honour, acceptance, and cultural appreciation. The gesture was received with warm gratitude and signified the group’s endorsement of Chief Opara’s leadership and alignment with the administration’s vision.
The visit ended with an exchange of gifts and a resolution by the group to work closely with the political adviser’s office to roll out people-oriented programmes in partnership with local communities.
