Governor Hope Uzodimma on Thursday declared open a three-day retreat for Local Government officials in Imo State, aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and promoting sustainable development.
The retreat, themed “Public Sector Governance for Officials of Local Government in Imo State, Enhancing Local Government Sustainable Development,” is coordinated by the Progressive Institute, an initiative of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing participants, the Governor charged Local Government officials to prioritise service to the people, describing public office as a noble calling that demands responsibility, passion for service, accountability, and a commitment to giving citizens a genuine sense of belonging.
He urged Chairmen to hold regular meetings with stakeholders to promote inclusiveness and unity, while advising Councillors to work closely with ward leaders, traditional rulers, and town union presidents to address community needs and challenges.
Reaffirming his commitment to the APC manifesto, the Governor stated that public office must be approached with integrity, accountability, and transparency, adding that security agencies have been instructed to monitor performance and presence at the grassroots.
Director-General of the Progressive Institute, Mr. Lanre Adebayo, lauded the peaceful atmosphere in Owerri and praised the calibre of participants at the retreat. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ruby Emele, commended the Governor’s investment in human capacity building alongside infrastructure development.
Present at the event were the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru Ph.D, top government officials, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders.
