In every generation, there are men and women whose lives illuminate their communities with light, wisdom, and compassion. Such is the story of Prophetess Theresa Onyemaechi Chilaka, a remarkable woman whose journey on earth reflected grace, humility, and unwavering faith in God. Her departure at the age of 75 has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, especially the people of Umuorji Nagli, Amato Alike Community, in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, where she lived, served, and ministered.
Born into a humble family, late Prophetess Theresa was a woman deeply rooted in Christian values. From her youthful years, she was known for her strong prayer life, gentle disposition, and commitment to the things of God. Her passion for ministry grew as she matured, leading her to embrace the divine calling of a prophetess, a calling that would define her life and influence generations.
For decades, Prophetess Chilaka dedicated herself to the service of humanity through her prophetic ministry. She was a counsellor to the troubled, a spiritual mother to the young, and a comforter to the broken-hearted. Her home became a sanctuary of peace, prayer, and healing, welcoming people from near and far who sought divine direction and encouragement.
Members of her local church and community recall her as a woman who never allowed challenges to weaken her faith. She believed in the transforming power of prayer and often encouraged others to hold firmly to their faith regardless of life’s storms. Her ministry was not built on fame or material wealth, but on love, sacrifice, and an unshakeable trust in God’s promises.
Beyond her religious service, Prophetess Theresa was a devoted mother and grandmother who nurtured her children in the fear of God. She instilled in them the virtues of honesty, discipline, and compassion. Her life’s example served as a moral compass, not only to her biological children but to countless others who saw in her the reflection of true godliness.
Leading the family to honour her legacy is her son, Comrade Stanley Chilaka, the Youth Leader of Amato Alike Autonomous Community, who has continued to uphold the values his mother cherished. Speaking about her passing, Comrade Chilaka described his mother as “a rare gem whose life was anchored in faith and service. She gave her best to humanity and lived for others. Her kindness, prayers, and encouragement shaped many lives in ways that words cannot fully capture.”
He further expressed appreciation to all who have shown love and solidarity to the family since her passing. “We are comforted by the testimonies of people who encountered her,” he said. “Every story we hear affirms that she truly lived for God and left behind a heritage of faith.”
According to the burial arrangements, an all-night wake will be held on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, at her family compound in Umuorji Nagli, Amato Alike, Obowo, where family members, friends, church groups, and community leaders will gather to celebrate her life through songs, testimonies, and prayers. The burial ceremony will follow on Thursday, 23rd October 2025, when Prophetess Theresa will be laid to rest in her hometown. It is expected to be a moment of solemn reflection, heartfelt tributes, and gratitude to God for a fulfilled life.
Her passing has continued to draw tributes from members of the Amato Alike community, religious leaders, and well-wishers across Obowo Local Government Area. Many have described her as a shining example of Christian virtue and selfless leadership. “Mama Theresa was not just a prophetess; she was a community builder. She taught us love, forgiveness, and unity,” said one of the elders during a condolence visit.
Indeed, Prophetess Theresa’s life was a testimony that faith in God remains the greatest legacy one can leave behind. In an age marked by material pursuits, she stood out as a voice of righteousness, reminding everyone that true greatness lies in service to others. Her humility, wisdom, and dedication will continue to echo through the corridors of time.
As Amato Alike bids farewell to one of its most revered daughters, the community finds comfort in knowing that her journey did not end in death but in eternal rest. Her name will be remembered not for worldly achievements but for the lives she touched, the souls she lifted, and the prayers she offered for peace and progress.
late Prophetess Theresa Onyemaechi Chilaka lived not just for herself but for her people and her God. Though she has gone to rest, her legacy remains an enduring light that will guide generations yet unborn.
