Dorothy Nnaji Hands Over NAWOJ to Vice Chairman

The leadership of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has formally transitioned as Dr. Mrs. Dorothy Nnaji hands over the affairs of the association to her Vice Chairperson, Mrs. Chizoba Opara, following her appointment as Permanent Secretary.

In her handover remarks, Dr. Nnaji expressed deep appreciation to members of the association for their unwavering support, cooperation, and commitment throughout her tenure. She urged members to extend the same goodwill, unity, and collaboration to the new Chairperson to ensure continuity and sustained progress within the association.


Dr. Nnaji also appreciated the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, for the love and support shown to the association during her time in office.


She noted that the strength of NAWOJ lies in its unity and collective dedication to advancing the welfare and professional development of women journalists.


Taking over the leadership, Mrs. Chizoba Opara thanked Dr. Nnaji for her exemplary leadership and impactful contributions to the association. She highlighted some of the notable achievements recorded during Dr. Nnaji’s tenure, including the furnishing of the Chairperson’s office and conference hall, the securing of the association’s bus, and significant strides made in improving members’ welfare, among other initiatives that strengthened the association.


Mrs. Opara pledged to build on the solid foundation laid by her predecessor and called on members to continue to work together in harmony,  to move the association to greater heights.


The announcement of the leadership transition stirred emotions among members, who offered prayers and goodwill messages for Dr. Nnaji as she assumes her new role, and for Mrs. Opara as she takes on the responsibility of leading the association.


The association remains committed to its core mandate of promoting professionalism, unity, and the welfare of women journalists.
