The Abia State Police Command has apprehended four students of Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, for alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, membership of an unlawful society, and unlawful possession of a firearm. The suspects were arrested following swift police action based on a distress report lodged by a student of the institution.
According to a press statement issued on 29th October 2025 by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka (LLB, anipr), the arrest stemmed from a complaint received at the Uturu Divisional Police Headquarters on 27th October 2025. The complainant, a student of ABSU, reported that he was accosted, assaulted, and dispossessed of his mobile phone by a group of young men suspected to be cult members.
Acting on actionable intelligence, detectives from the Uturu Division swiftly moved into action and arrested the following suspects: Emmanuel Ifeanyi (22 years), Adiwo Chukwuemeka (27 years), Ogbonna John (27 years), and Hope Worenwu (23 years) — all identified as students of Abia State University.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of the following items: one cut-to-size double-barrel locally made gun, four live cartridges, one black mask, three caps (two of which bore the emblem of the De Norsemen Club International), one iPhone 12, and one Redmi phone, which was later identified by the complainant as his stolen property.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Vikings Confraternity, a banned cult group notorious for violent activities within and outside the university community. The case has since been transferred to the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Command for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang still at large.
In his reaction, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, commended the swift response of the detectives and reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes in the state. He assured residents that the police would continue to intensify surveillance and intelligence-led operations to ensure the safety of lives and property, particularly within academic environments.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, and 08079210006.
The statement concluded with the Command’s familiar message to residents:
“See Something, Say Something. Together, let us keep Abia safe.”
