Chief Perry Opara has reaffirmed that Governor Hope Uzodimma plays a critical role in strengthening the relationship between the national and sub-national governments in Nigeria.
He made the remarks at the weekend during the inauguration ceremony of the 36 Ward Executives of the Olu Oha Mbaise Political Assembly, following questions from journalists on why the Governor frequently travels outside the state.
Opara explained that Governor Uzodimma’s responsibilities extend beyond Imo State, noting that his mandate includes contributing to national stability and supporting Nigeria’s development trajectory.
He pointed out that Governor Uzodimma serves as the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, a position that places significant national duties on him.
According to him, the Governor must balance his commitment to providing focused leadership in Imo State with his wider responsibility of coordinating the collective efforts of other sub-national governments to stabilise Nigeria and advance sustainable development. He described this dual role as both demanding and essential for the nation’s progress.
Addressing the newly inaugurated executives of the Olu Oha Mbaise Political Assembly, Chief Opara urged them to remain steadfast in upholding the ideals and unity of the organisation.
He recalled that the Assembly was instrumental in hosting the 2022 Iri Ji Mbaise festival, during which Governor Uzodimma was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Enyi Oma Mbaise in recognition of his contributions to the people.
Opara, who serves as the Chief Political Adviser to the Governor and President of the National Forum for Political Advisers in Nigeria, also used the opportunity to appreciate the Governor for completing the Owerri–Mbaise–Umuahia road. He encouraged him to extend further infrastructural development to other parts of Mbaise.
The event ended with renewed commitment from stakeholders to support the Governor’s leadership and the continued growth of Mbaise and Imo State at large.
