The Abia State Police Command has arrested three suspected gun runners and recovered seven assorted firearms in a targeted operation carried out in the early hours of Thursday, 11 December 2025, at Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
The suspects, identified as sixty five year old Nworu John, sixty five year old Chikezie Ubani, and fifty five year old Collins Ukandu, were apprehended by operatives of the Command following what authorities described as credible and actionable intelligence. The raid, which was conducted as part of the Command’s intensified security measures for the Yuletide season, led to the recovery of a cache of illegal weapons believed to be used for criminal activities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka, the items recovered include two automatic pump action guns, three locally made double barrel guns, one single barrel pump action gun, one locally fabricated six round revolver and four live cartridges. She confirmed that the suspects are currently undergoing thorough interrogation as investigations continue to determine the full network of the illicit arms syndicate.
The Police Command noted that this success forms part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements, safeguard lives and property, and maintain peace before, during and after the festive period. Officials highlighted that several arms have been recovered in recent weeks, while suspects linked to various offences have been arrested, arraigned and successfully prosecuted in court.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Police to sustained crime fighting, the Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, assured residents of Abia State that the security architecture of the Command remains robust, with covert and overt strategies already activated to ensure continuous safety across all communities. He appealed to the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, persons or security concerns to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005 and 08079210006.
