The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Paulina Iwuagwu (JP), has urged Information Officers in Imo State to remain committed to their core professional responsibilities and uphold the ethics of the profession.

Mrs. Iwuagwu gave the charge recently when the executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Information Chapel, paid her a courtesy visit in her office.

Addressing the delegation, the Permanent Secretary emphasized the importance of Information Officers taking their duties seriously, noting that the effective dissemination of government policies, programmes and activities depends largely on their dedication and commitment.

She admonished the officers to always prioritize their professional responsibilities, stressing that they should not allow other engagements to overshadow their primary duties.

According to her, "Take your job as Information Officers first. Don't relegate your job to the background. As you are carrying your members along, drum it into their ears to do their jobs. If you are not serious with your job, we will not be willing to partner with you."

Mrs. Iwuagwu further assured the chapel of the Ministry's readiness to collaborate with Information Officers who demonstrate commitment, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility in the discharge of their duties.

Earlier in her remarks, the Chairperson of the NUJ Information Chapel, Comrade Doreen Eke, said the visit was aimed at familiarizing the chapel's leadership with the Permanent Secretary and informing her of the recent leadership change within the chapel.

Comrade Eke explained that the development followed the election of the immediate past Chairman of the Information Chapel, Comrade Stanley Nnaji, as Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council.

She pledged the commitment of the new leadership to promoting professionalism among Information Officers and strengthening cooperation with the Ministry in advancing effective information management and public enlightenment.
