Ezinwa George Okonkwo Meet Ahaizu Mbaise LGA Stakeholders Declare for State Assembly Seat Under APC.

 



The political atmosphere in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State came alive as Ezinwa George Okpechukwuwara Okonkwo formally declared his intention to contest for the Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency seat in the 2027 general election under the platform of All Progressives Congress. 


The declaration, which took place at the Local Government Area headquarters on 17th April ,2026, attracted party faithful, community leaders, traditional rulers, stakeholders, and supporters from different wards across the LGA.


The event marked a significant moment in the political journey of Okonkwo, who is widely regarded as a grassroots mobiliser and community development advocate. The gathering also brought together notable figures within the party structure, including the Ahiazu Mbaise APC Local Government Area Chairman, Chief Mike Uzogara, members of the LGA executive, ward leaders, and other aspirants seeking various political offices within the party.


Also present at the occasion were the Commissioner for Livestock Development in Imo State, Dr. Anthony C. Mgbeahuruike, and the Executive Chairman of Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Amb. Larry Obinna Chikwe, alongside traditional rulers from the area, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Imo State on Labour Matters, and several political stakeholders who gathered to witness the formal declaration.


Earlier, the Ward Chairman of the APC in Mpam Ward, Hon. Flex Ogu, formally presented Okonkwo to the Local Government Area leadership of the party. In his presentation, Ogu described the aspirant as a committed party member and a man who has consistently demonstrated loyalty to the APC and dedication to the development of Ahiazu Mbaise.


In his address, Okonkwo expressed appreciation to the leadership of the party for providing a platform that encourages democratic participation and inclusiveness. He commended the Governor of Imo State and the leadership of the APC for strengthening the party structure at both the state and local government levels.


Declaring his intention to contest for the Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency seat, Okonkwo said his ambition was driven by the desire to serve the people and reposition the constituency for sustainable development. According to him, Ahiazu Mbaise is blessed with hardworking people, rich agricultural resources, and enormous human capital that must be harnessed for the collective good of the community.


He emphasised that his aspiration represents a new direction for the constituency and presented a ten point agenda designed to address key challenges facing the people.


The agenda, which he described as a blueprint for a new dawn in Ahiazu Mbaise, focuses on transparent leadership and accountability, peace and reconciliation among communities, youth empowerment and employment opportunities, women inclusion and economic support, infrastructure development, education and human capital development, healthcare improvement, agricultural revitalisation, strengthened security, and partnership with traditional and religious institutions.


Okonkwo explained that his leadership style would prioritise openness and regular engagement with constituents through town hall meetings and other participatory governance mechanisms. He stressed that effective representation requires leaders who are accessible and responsive to the needs of the people.


He also highlighted the importance of empowering young people through skills acquisition programmes and entrepreneurship support initiatives, noting that youth development is critical to the long term progress of the constituency. According to him, empowering women economically and socially would equally strengthen families and promote community stability.


Speaking at the event, a prominent leader in the area, Chief Bona Nwaoha, described Okonkwo as the best choice for the people of Ahiazu Mbaise. While acknowledging that other aspirants are qualified and capable, he maintained that Okonkwo stands out because of his grassroots connection and commitment to the welfare of the people.


According to him, the constituency needs a representative who understands the needs of the people and has the passion to deliver effective representation at the Imo State House of Assembly.


In his remarks, the APC Local Government Area Chairman, Chief Mike Uzogara, noted that the large turnout of stakeholders and party members at the declaration event was a clear indication of the importance of the moment. He observed that the presence of prominent leaders and stakeholders from across Ahiazu Mbaise sends a strong signal that the people are ready to make the right choice in the coming political processes.


Chief Uzogara affirmed that the party had received Okonkwo’s declaration and accepted him as one of the aspirants seeking the APC ticket for the Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency seat. He stated that the APC remains a party that encourages internal democracy and provides opportunities for qualified individuals to aspire to leadership positions.


According to him, all aspirants seeking different political positions within the party are capable of representing the local government effectively, not only at the state level but also on broader platforms where the interest of the people must be defended.


He emphasised that what Ahiazu Mbaise requires at this critical time is an opportunity to turn things around through responsible leadership and collective commitment to development.


The APC chairman further advised all aspirants to approach the political process with humility, faith, and a spirit of sportsmanship. He encouraged them to pray and seek divine guidance as the party prepares for its primary elections.


According to him, it is important for aspirants to accept the outcome of the primaries in good faith, trusting that God will ultimately guide the party and the people to choose the right candidate.


He urged Okonkwo and other aspirants to continue engaging with the people and seeking their support as the party moves closer to its internal selection process.


Chief Uzogara concluded his remarks by leading the gathering in prayers, asking God to grant wisdom and direction to the party and its members as they make decisions that will shape the future of Ahiazu Mbaise.


The prayer session also focused on asking God to guide the party in selecting the right candidate who will effectively represent the interests of the people and bring meaningful development to the constituency.


The presence of traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials, and party faithful at the event further underscored the growing political momentum surrounding the 2027 electoral cycle in Ahiazu Mbaise.


For many observers, the declaration of Ezinwa George Okpechukwuwara Okonkwo marks the beginning of what could become a defining political contest in the constituency. Supporters believe that his grassroots background, empowerment initiatives, and structured development agenda position him as a strong contender for the position.
