It was a moment of jubilation, conviviality and renewed hope as frontline political figure and Okigwe Zone senatorial hopeful, Ike Kennedy Odoeme, formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Imo North Senatorial District election. He made a firm promise to deepen development efforts and reposition the zone through purposeful, result-driven representation.
The declaration took place on Wednesday, 15th April 2026, at his country home in Dimneze, Ihitte-Uboma Local Government Area. It drew a large gathering of party stakeholders, elected officials, community leaders and political actors from across the six local government areas of Okigwe Zone. In attendance were ward, local, zonal, and state party executives, former commissioners, executive chairmen, councillors, supervisors and other critical stakeholders, underscoring the significance of the moment.
Addressing the gathering, Odoeme explained that his decision to seek the senatorial mandate was driven by a desire to expand and consolidate the tangible humanitarian and developmental initiatives he has undertaken over the years. He cited the ongoing construction of a Mother & Child Hospital in Dimneze, individual empowerment through grants, building of houses for indigent widows, building of a Catholic church in the Dimneze community, donation of buses to indigent youths, scholarship programmes, and distribution of school bags and uniforms as practical interventions already impacting lives across the zone. According to him, these efforts provide a foundation for broader transformation with the leverage of legislative office.
He stressed that his aspiration is anchored on proven capacity, not mere promises. Invoking the Latin expression _Nemo dat quod non habet_, meaning “one cannot give what he/she does not have,” Odoeme noted that rather than making lofty assurances, he is offering a track record of service which he intends to scale up for the benefit of Okigwe Zone. He added that the zone urgently needs deliberate rescue, given years of neglect, underdevelopment and growing security concerns affecting the people.
In a personal reflection, Odoeme, known as an inspiration to the younger generation, noted that his rise from a modest background to a position of impact should motivate youths across Okigwe Zone. He encouraged them to remain resilient and ambitious, expressing confidence that greater achievements are possible despite prevailing challenges.
Earlier in his speech, Odoeme outlined a vision anchored on Excellence, Empathy and Service. His focus is on harnessing local resources, attracting sustainable investments, expanding economic opportunities and ensuring inclusive development across all communities in the zone. He reaffirmed his readiness to deploy his experience, networks and administrative capacity to deliver measurable progress if given the mandate.
The declaration was met with widespread endorsement from leaders and stakeholders present, many of whom expressed confidence in his capacity and pledged their support. The gathering ended on a note of unity and shared commitment, as Odoeme reiterated his call for collective action to build a more prosperous and forward-looking Okigwe Zone.
“Together, we rise to restore our future,” he declared.
