The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma on Saturday 30th of May, 2026 has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria, declaring that the unity of the country remains non negotiable and must be protected by all patriotic citizens irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political differences.
Governor Uzodinma made the declaration at the historic Etsu Nupe Palace in Bida, Niger State, during the turbaning ceremony of Dr. Veronica Safiya Ndanusa as Soniyan Ayuka Nupe. The Governor was represented at the colourful event by his Chief Political Adviser and Head of Political Bureau, Chief Perry Opara, who served as the Chairman of the occasion.
Addressing a distinguished gathering of traditional rulers, political leaders, professionals, community leaders and guests from different parts of the country, Chief Opara conveyed Governor Uzodinma's message of national cohesion, peaceful coexistence and collective responsibility towards nation building.
According to him, Governor Uzodinma firmly believes that Nigeria's strength lies in its diversity and that the country's progress can only be guaranteed when citizens place national interest above sectional, ethnic and religious considerations.
"The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has consistently maintained that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable. As Nigerians, we may come from different ethnic nationalities, practise different religions and speak different languages, but our shared destiny as one nation is greater than our differences," Opara stated.
He noted that Nigeria's founding fathers envisioned a united nation where citizens would live together in peace, pursue common goals and collectively contribute to national development. He stressed that every generation has a responsibility to preserve that vision for future generations.
Chief Opara further explained that the administration of Governor Uzodinma has continued to promote policies and programmes that encourage national integration, peaceful coexistence and inclusive governance. He added that the Governor's leadership style reflects his belief that every Nigerian deserves equal opportunity regardless of tribe, religion or region.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Opara described the conferment of the traditional title on Dr. Veronica Safiya Ndanusa as a demonstration of the enduring values of service, excellence and community development which traditional institutions across Nigeria continue to uphold.
He commended the Etsu Nupe Kingdom for sustaining a rich cultural heritage while promoting unity among the diverse peoples of Nigeria. According to him, traditional institutions remain vital partners in promoting peace, social harmony and national stability.
Opara emphasised that at a time when some forces seek to exploit ethnic and religious differences for selfish interests, Nigerians must consciously embrace tolerance, mutual respect and understanding.
"Nation building is a collective responsibility. We must reject divisive tendencies and work together to strengthen the bonds that unite us. Our diversity should be a source of strength and not a cause for division. A united Nigeria is stronger, safer and more prosperous for all," he said.
He further noted that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and stability. He therefore urged political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders and citizens to continue promoting dialogue, understanding and national unity at all levels.
The Chief Political Adviser also highlighted the strategic role being played by Governor Uzodinma as Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, noting that his efforts continue to contribute significantly to strengthening cooperation between the federal and state governments in the collective pursuit of national development.
According to him, Governor Uzodinma remains committed to building bridges across regional, religious and political divides in order to foster national harmony and progress.
Opara congratulated Dr. Veronica Safiya Ndanusa on her well deserved recognition and urged her to continue using her influence and platform to promote peace, unity and development within the Nupe Kingdom and Nigeria as a whole.
The event attracted eminent personalities from across the country, including the governor of Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials, business leaders and community stakeholders, who gathered to celebrate a woman widely recognised for her contributions to society and community advancement.
