The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, has reiterated that good governance naturally attracts the support, confidence and goodwill of the people, irrespective of ethnic, religious or political affiliations.
Governor Uzodinma's message was delivered by his Chief Political Adviser and Head of Political Bureau, Chief Perry Opara, who represented him at the grand civic reception organised by the Imo Community resident in Aba, Abia State, in honour of the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti.
The colourful event brought together prominent sons and daughters of Imo State living in Aba, political leaders, traditional rulers, business executives and community stakeholders, who assembled to celebrate Governor Otti's leadership and reaffirm the enduring relationship between the people of Imo and Abia States.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Uzodinma, Chief Opara said that the warm reception accorded Governor Otti by the Imo community was a practical demonstration that good governance transcends political parties, ethnicity and state boundaries.
According to him, Governor Uzodinma believes that when leaders remain committed to delivering quality infrastructure, promoting security, creating economic opportunities and improving the welfare of the people, citizens will naturally identify with such leadership.
"His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, believes that good governance attracts good followership. When leaders genuinely serve the people with sincerity, vision and commitment, the people will always appreciate and support such leadership regardless of where they come from," Opara stated.
He noted that Nigeria's unity can only be strengthened when leaders place the interests of the people above political differences and continue to build bridges of friendship, cooperation and development across state boundaries.
Chief Opara commended the Imo community in Aba for maintaining peaceful coexistence with their host communities and for contributing meaningfully to the economic and social development of Abia State.
He urged Nigerians residing outside their states of origin to continue promoting national unity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, stressing that every Nigerian has a responsibility to build a stronger and more united nation.
Responding to the honour, Governor Alex Otti expressed deep appreciation to the Imo community for the recognition, describing the reception as another confirmation that good governance receives appreciation beyond political and geographical boundaries.
Governor Otti disclosed that this was the third time that people from different parts of Nigeria residing in Abia State had organised receptions in his honour, a development he described as both humbling and encouraging.
He specifically commended the Imo community in Aba for their unity, organisation and peaceful disposition, assuring them that his administration remains committed to providing an enabling environment for every law abiding resident of Abia State, irrespective of state of origin.
According to Governor Otti, his administration does not discriminate against anyone, maintaining that government belongs to all the people and not to a privileged few.
"My government is for everybody. We do not believe in selective governance or the politics of exclusion. Every resident of Abia State deserves equal treatment, equal opportunity and the dividends of good governance," Governor Otti said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building an inclusive government anchored on justice, fairness, transparency and accountability, adding that the progress of Abia State depends on the collective contributions of all residents regardless of their ethnic or political backgrounds.
The event ended with renewed calls for stronger collaboration between the people of Imo and Abia States, as stakeholders commended both Governor Hope Uzodinma and Governor Alex Otti for promoting peace, regional cooperation and people centred governance in the South East.
