From Friday, October 2,2026,Enugu ,the coal city state, will start buzzing as members of the 1988 Set
of Emmanuel College Owerri Old Students Association, otherwise known as ECOL '88 across the globe, storm the city for their 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the 10th year anniversary celebration of the group.
Already, ECOL '88 members both at home and in the diaspora have expressed their willingness to make both events grand. The atmosphere is electrifying, according to Chief Ifeanyi Okafor, a member of the AGM Planning Committee.
The Enugu State Chapter of the Association, which is hosting this year's event, has also assured members that all arrangements have been concluded to deliver an AGM and 10th year anniversary celebration that will be topnotch and "ideally unique in all ramifications."
In a novel and unprecedented development in the history of ECOL '88, the 2026 AGM and 10th year anniversary celebration has already attracted the endorsement of two corporate companies in Nigeria. The two corporate bodies have assured that they will partner with the Association, especially in areas of logistics needed for the epoch making events.
Speaking on the level of preparedness, the Chairman of the AGM Planning Committee, Chief Ubaferem Nwoha, disclosed that everything is set for a successful hosting."We are fully ready for the events,"he said.
Chief Nwoha paid glowing tributes to the National Coordinator of ECOL '88, Chief Emeka Ariguzo, Ph.D, for repositioning the Association and ensuring that members' inputs count in the running of the Association.
According to him, "Chief Ariguzo's leadership sagacity, dexterity, and commitment to probity and accountability have rekindled members' belief that ECOL '88 is indeed unique. He is an exceptional team leader whose leadership idiosyncrasies are unparalleled."
He posited further: "Enugu 2026 AGM and the celebration of our 10th year anniversary are in top gear. We are ready and set to host ECOL '88 members worldwide. This year's AGM will be truly unique."
Also commenting, the Coordinator of Owerri Chapter of ECOL '88, Hon Evans Anukam, stated that this year's AGM and 10th Anniversary will redefine the priorities of the Association and position it to serve the greater interests of members. He opined that the Association will continue to be a pacesetter amongst other Sets in Emmanuel College Owerri Old Students Association (ECOOSA).
Anukam lauded the National Coordinator, Chief Emeka Ariguzo, for galvanising the Association and restoring the confidence of members in the leadership of the Association. "At a point, it appeared that we were drifting, but Ariguzo's emergence as National Coordinator with his supportive national executive officers have now steadied our ship admirably and we are sailing seamlessly," Anukam posited.
He noted that the 10th year anniversary celebration of ECOL '88, which coincided with its 2026 AGM, is divine. He assured members that the Association will continue to grow in leaps and bounds.
The 2026 AGM is expected to attract members of ECOL '88 from all chapters in Nigeria and the diaspora, as well as friends and well-wishers of the Association.
