Following the conclusion of All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections and the emergence of candidates for the 2027 general elections, Hon. Anusiem Oji James, an APC 2026 aspirant for the Okigwe South Federal Constituency seat, has called on the people of Imo State to support the party’s candidates across all levels of government.
Hon. Anusiem made the call while congratulating the leadership and members of the APC on the successful completion of the party’s primary elections, urging Imo people to participate actively in the forthcoming elections and consider the candidates presented by the party across the various constituencies.
The call covers the entire electoral structure, including candidates for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and the Presidency.
His appeal comes as political parties move from the primary election stage towards the general election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed January 16, 2027 for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
For Hon. Anusiem, the conclusion of the primary elections provides an opportunity for the APC to consolidate its structures and mobilise its members across the 27 local government areas of Imo State.
He called on APC faithful to remain united and committed to the party, while encouraging successful candidates to see their emergence not merely as a political achievement but as a responsibility to the people they seek to represent.
The aspirant particularly congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on securing the APC presidential ticket, others and acknowledged the efforts of the party leadership towards preparing for the 2027 election.
He also recognised the leadership roles of prominent members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, particularly His Excellency, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director General of the council.
Hon. Anusiem equally acknowledged Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters and Deputy Director General, Logistics and Support Services of the Presidential Campaign Council, for his role in the organisation and coordination of the campaign structure.
He further acknowledged His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State and Secretary of the Presidential Campaign Council, for his role in the national campaign structure and his leadership of the APC in Imo State.
The 2026 APC aspirant also recognised former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, for his continued involvement in the political affairs of the state and his role within the campaign structure.
According to Hon. Anusiem, the period ahead should be used to strengthen unity among APC members and take the party’s message to the grassroots.
He urged party members to work across their wards, local government areas and constituencies, stressing that the success of the party in the general election would require collective effort from its members and supporters.
He called specifically for support for APC candidates contesting seats in the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate, as well as the party’s presidential candidate.
Hon. Anusiem said the people of Imo State should pay attention to the programmes, experience and development plans of candidates as they make their decisions at the polls, while urging political campaigns to remain peaceful and issue based.
For the aspirant, effective representation should translate into tangible development for the people. This philosophy has also remained central to his own aspiration to represent Okigwe South Federal Constituency, comprising Obowo, Ihitte Uboma and Ehime Mbano.
Since formally declaring his interest in the federal constituency race at his country home in Avutu, Obowo Local Government Area, Hon. Anusiem has consistently presented a vision centred on road infrastructure, education, economic opportunities, youth empowerment and long term development.
He believes that representation at the National Assembly should go beyond occupying a seat and should involve attracting federal interventions, supporting development initiatives and ensuring that the concerns of constituents are effectively presented at the national level.
His professional background, which spans public administration, accounting, project management and service in several government institutions, forms part of the experience he says he intends to bring into public representation.
Hon. Anusiem has served in strategic public institutions, including the Independent National Electoral Commission, Federal Capital Development Authority, Federal Capital Territory Administration and the North East Development Commission. His career has provided him with exposure to public administration, project coordination, budgeting and development planning.
As the 2027 election approaches, he urged APC members across Imo State to remain disciplined, peaceful and committed to the party, while encouraging candidates who have emerged from the primaries to reach out to all members, including those who contested but did not secure the tickets.
He said the strength of the APC going into the general election would depend largely on the ability of its members to work together despite differences that may have arisen during the primary elections.
Hon. Anusiem also appealed to the electorate to participate fully in the democratic process and exercise their franchise responsibly.
He expressed confidence that a united and well organised APC would be better positioned to present its programmes and candidates to the people of Imo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His message is therefore a call for unity, mobilisation and responsible political participation as the APC moves from the primary election phase into the broader campaign for the 2027 elections.
