The Executive Chairman of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Chief Mrs. Chika Ibekwe, has hosted political leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders and women from the 29 Autonomous Communities to the 2026 Ngor Okpala LGA August Meeting Grand Finale.
The colourful event, held at the Ngor Okpala Council Headquarters, Umuneke, provided an avenue for women and community stakeholders to celebrate their cultural heritage, strengthen unity and promote community development.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Mrs. Ibekwe expressed gratitude to God for the successful celebration and commended the women of Ngor Okpala for preserving the rich cultural heritage and communal values associated with the annual August Meeting.
She described the August Meeting as an important platform for women to reconnect with their roots, strengthen bonds of unity, celebrate their cultural heritage and contribute to the development of their families and communities.
The Chairman encouraged the women to continue supporting one another, promote peace and actively participate in initiatives aimed at advancing the development of Ngor Okpala.
Chief Mrs. Ibekwe also appreciated the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his leadership and commitment to the development of the state, particularly his policies and programmes which, she said, have created opportunities and positively impacted women and families across the state.
She equally acknowledged the sustained support of the First Lady of Imo State, Her Excellency Barr. Dr. Chioma Uzodimma, towards the welfare, empowerment and advancement of women and children, as well as her commitment to initiatives promoting culture and community values.
Speaking at the event, the APC Senatorial Candidate for Owerri Zone, Prince Alex Mbata, described the Ngor Okpala August Meeting Grand Finale as one of the best he had witnessed, urging the women to sustain the tradition and continue to promote unity and development.
In a goodwill message delivered on behalf of the First Lady, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, commended the women for keeping the cherished August Meeting tradition alive.
She also praised their dedication to peace, unity and progress in their communities.
The event attracted prominent political leaders and dignitaries from across Owerri Zone and beyond.
Among those in attendance were Hon. Mrs. Patrick Ekeji Olaedo, APC Candidate for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency; Rt. Hon. Obinna Egu, Member re presenting Ngor Okpala State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly; Barr. Enyinna Onuegbu, Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning; and Dr. Mrs. Chioma Egu, Commissioner for Health.
Others included former Imo State APC Chairman, Chief Mercillinus Nlemigbo; Vice Chairman of Ngor Okpala LGA, Hon. Kizito Onuoha; Eze Fred Nwachukwu, Chairman, Owerri Zone Council of Traditional Rulers; Eze Obinna Eziakonwa, Chairman, Ngor Okpala Council of Traditional Rulers; and Engr. Blessing Ibekwe, President General of all President Generals in Ngor Okpala LGA.
Also present were the Owerri Zonal Chairman of APC, Hon. Justus Ogu; Owerri Zonal Women Leader, Lady Tina Okere; Chief Val Okere, popularly known as Amadioha Ngor Okpala; Ngor Okpala APC Chairman, Hon. Dabirichi Akwa; former Imo State House of Assembly Member for Owerri North, Nze Ray Emeana; and former IMC Chairman and Sole Administrator of Ngor Okpala LGA, Chief Mayor Nweke.
The gathering further attracted Hon. Lawrence Achinihu, Lady Ifeoma Nwanojuo, ASP Nkwocha, Councillors, APC Ward Chairmen, Party Women Leaders, President Generals, Community Women Leaders and representatives of the 29 Autonomous Communities.
The highpoints of the celebration included the distribution of gas cylinders and wrappers to beneficiaries, exhibition of agricultural products such as bunches of plantains, as well as cultural dances, drama and other entertaining activities.
The grand finale ended on a colourful note, with participants celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Ngor Okpala while reaffirming their commitment to unity, peace and sustainable community development.
