The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, says he will retire from active politics after completing his second tenure in 2031, ruling out any plan to seek a senatorial seat or remain involved in politics as a godfather.
Speaking in Umuahia while receiving the 2023 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Dr. Ngozika Gladys Johnson-Chukwunenye, and her supporters into the Labour Party, Governor Otti said he does not want to be a political godfather and would not impose his successor on the people of Abia.
The Governor said he wants younger people to take over leadership and that the person who succeeds him should be better equipped to lead the state. Otti added that after his tenure, he would take a back seat and allow Abia voters to determine who governs the state.
