In a historic event aimed at addressing the pressing issue of human trafficking and promoting women's welfare, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) paid a courtesy visit to the esteemed First Lady of Imo State, Barr. (Mrs) Chioma D. Uzodimma(Ezinne ndi Imo). The Commander and his Officers visited her in her Office in Government House, Owerri to solicit her support and assistance in the fight against Human Trafficking.
The Commander briefed her on the works the Agency is doing in the State ranging from sensitization to arrests and rescue of victims of this heinous crime in the State and why the government should support the Agency.The meeting between NAPTIP and Mrs. Uzodinma was productive, and a number of key issues were discussed. NAPTIP shared its efforts to combat human trafficking in Imo state, and the First Lady shared her insights on the unique challenges that the state faces in this area. One of the key areas of focus was the need to address the root causes of human trafficking, such as poverty, lack of education, and gender inequality.
The First Lady in her reaction urged the Command to do more especially with regard to changing the mindset of Nigerians citing wickedness on the part of some Nigerians against another otherwise how will a human being deliberately exploit another. She also urged the Officers to emphasize on parental responsibilities as parents are also culpable during our public awareness campaigns.
Barr.(Mrs) Chioma D.Uzodinma pledged her support for NAPTIP's activities, vowing to work hand-in-hand to establish awareness campaigns,rescue operations and comprehensive rehabilitation programs for survivors.“We will do everything in our power to end this injustice and create a safe and nurturing environment for everyone” she affirmed.
An interactive session ensued thereon as she looked at the factors triggering TIP and ways to address them. She also shared her experience with victims and inquired on the roles of State Taskforce that is non The First Lady also highlighted the need for more resources to be allocated to NAPTIP's work in the state. She noted that the agency is doing important work.Barr.(Mrs) Uzodinma said that she would work with the state government to ensure that NAPTIP has the resources it needs to effectively combat human trafficking.
The courtesy visit to the first lady of Imo State was an unforgettable milestone, representing the power of collaboration and dedication in the fight against human trafficking. It showcased the transformative potentials when government agencies and Individuals with a shared vision, work together to protect the vulnerable citizens of the state.As the meeting concluded,both parties expressed hope for a brighter future,free from the clutches of human trafficking in Imo State.
