The Imo State Correctional Services proudly showcased over 100 items crafted by inmates from the Owerri Correctional Center on December 1, 2023.

During the event, Mr. Kinsley Njoku, the Controller of Corrections for the Imo State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service, emphasized the importance of spotlighting the talents and skills of these individuals, highlighting the potential for their rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society.

The exhibited items, ranging from shoes, security boots, clothes, chairs, artificial hair, handbags, walking sticks, barton, liquid soaps, security caps to portrait drawings, impressed both the Imo State Controller and the Imo Commissioner of Police as they toured the exhibition.

This showcase illustrated the positive impact inmates can have through their abilities, shifting the perspective from seeing them as burdens to recognizing their potential contributions to society. It underscored the necessity of providing opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration, aiming to reduce recidivism rates.

The success of the exhibition was a testament to the support from the renewed hope administration of President Bola Tinubu and the dedication of the participating inmates. It served as a powerful reminder that with support and opportunity, individuals can transform and positively impact society.

In his closing statement, Deputy Controller of Corrections, C.E. Eke, expressed gratitude for the successful day and affirmed that these inmates, once reintegrated into society, would not suffer from hunger due to their acquired skills.
