Access Bank Employees Donate Boreholes to Communities

Employees of Access Bank's Retail Operations Group have donated boreholes to various communities across Nigeria to address water scarcity and health challenges.

The initiative was marked by the inauguration of a borehole and water treatment facility in the Ogolonto Community in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Thursday.

This donation comes amid a cholera outbreak in the country, which has claimed over 40 lives. The Retail Operations Group noted that this effort is part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the year.

Folusho Ibeabuchi, Chairperson of ROG CSR 2024, stated that the project was launched after observing that many communities still struggle with access to clean water, making them vulnerable to water-borne diseases.

"We chose communities based on their needs. Similar projects are underway in Yola, Makurdi, Cross River, and Abia States," Ibeabuchi explained.

The boreholes, funded by contributions from Access Bank staff, are intended to provide long-term benefits.

"We also installed a water treatment facility to prevent diseases like cholera," Ibeabuchi added.

Adenike Jegede, Zonal Head of Lagos 1, ROG, emphasized the bank's dedication to impactful CSR initiatives.

"We look at the communities in which we operate to see how we can help. This project, especially during the cholera outbreak, is timely," Jegede said.

The Baale of Ogolonto, Oloruntade Fatola, thanked the bank for the project and urged the community to maintain the facilities responsibly.

"We are grateful for this project, especially given the current cholera outbreak," Fatola noted.
