COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) YOUTH WING, IMO STATE, AT THE END OF ITS EXTRAORDINARY MEETING ON THE PROPOSED POLITICALLY CONTRIVED NATIONAL PROTEST: A CALL FOR RESTRAINT AND CONSTRUCTIVE ENGAGEMENT
We, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth wing, Imo State, at the end of our extraordinary meeting reviewed the economic situation of the country and observed with delight the genuine commitment and intentional effort of the Federal government to meeting the yearnings and aspirations of our people.
While it is important to appreciate the genuine concerns of our people, it is necessary to remind us that there is no shortcut to sustainable development. It is a work in progress! One brick after another, Rome was built! We therefore appeal to our youths to remain patriotic and shun the manipulation of enemies of this nation who want to destabilize us.
In view of the foregoing, we are compelled to address the proposed national protest, which we believe poses a significant threat to the security, economic development, and democratic stability of our great nation, Nigeria.
1. Threat to National Security: A Recipe for Chaos
The proposed protest has the potential to compromise the security of our country, undermining the efforts of our security agencies to maintain peace and order. We cannot afford to compromise the safety of our citizens, and we must prioritize the protection of lives and property. The consequences of such a protest would be catastrophic, leading to a breakdown in law and order, and potentially resulting in loss of life and property.
2. Economic Sabotage: A Threat to Our Collective Prosperity
The protest will inevitably disrupt economic activities, causing harm to businesses, investors, and the general populace. This will lead to a decline in economic growth, increased unemployment, and a decrease in the standard of living. We must not allow this to happen, especially during a time when our economy is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed protest would be a devastating blow to our economy, and we must do everything in our power to prevent it.
3. Constitutional Rights and Responsibilities: A Delicate Balance
While we acknowledge the constitutional right to lawful assembly, we emphasize that such rights must be exercised responsibly, without infringing on the rights of other citizens to freedom of movement. We must strike a balance between exercising our rights and respecting the rights of others. The proposed protest would disrupt the delicate balance between these rights, leading to a situation where the rights of some citizens are prioritized over others.
4. Constructive Engagement: A Better Approach
Rather than resorting to protests, we advocate for constructive engagement with relevant government authorities to address perceived grievances and work towards meaningful solutions. This approach has proven to be effective in addressing issues and promoting national development. We believe that dialogue and engagement are the keys to resolving conflicts and promoting national progress.
5. Preservation of Democracy and Peace: A Collective Responsibility
We must prioritize the preservation of our democracy and fragile peace, avoiding any actions that may trigger crises or undermine our collective progress. We have come too far as a nation to allow our democratic gains to be eroded by unnecessary protests. We must work together to protect our democracy and promote peace and stability.
6. Patriotism and National Interest: Putting Nigeria First
As patriotic citizens, we must put the interests of our nation above personal or group interests, working towards the common goal of building a prosperous and secure Nigeria. We must not allow selfish interests to compromise our national development. We must prioritize the needs of our nation and work towards a brighter future for all.
7. Call to Action: Let Us Work Together
We urge all well-meaning Nigerians to reject the proposed protest and instead engage in constructive dialogue, promoting peace, security, and economic growth for the benefit of all. Let us work together to build a better Nigeria, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We must put aside our differences and work towards a common goal – a prosperous and secure Nigeria.
