BREAKING: Governor Hope Uzodimma Led South East Governors Forum Moves to Secure Release of Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB Leader




In a significant development, the South East Governors Forum, led by Senator Hope Uzodimma, has resolved to intervene and secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). 



This decision was reached during a meeting held on July 2, 2024, where the five governors of the southeast region gathered to discuss pressing issues affecting the region, including security and economy.


According to the communique released, the governors unanimously agreed to interface with President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, to negotiate the release of Kanu, who has been in detention since his arrest in 2021. 



The move is seen as a bold step towards addressing the lingering issues in the southeast and promoting peace and stability in the region.


The meeting, which, was attended by all five governors of the southeast states, including Senator Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Mr. Alex Otti (Abia), Rt. Hon Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Mr. Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Prof. Chukwuma Soludo (Anambra).


The Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, explained that the decision to intervene in Kanu's case was driven by the need to promote peace and stability in the region. 


Reading the communique he said, "We have resolved to interface with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR led Federal Government to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB. 


We believe that his release will help to douse the tension in the southeast and create an enabling environment for dialogue and peaceful resolution of the crisis".


The development is seen as a major breakthrough in the efforts to resolve the crisis in the southeast, and it has been welcomed by various stakeholders in the region. 


The IPOB leadership has also expressed optimism over the development, saying that it is a step in the right direction.


As the South East Governors Forum moves to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the region and the nation at large await with bated breath the outcome of this intervention, which will certainly mark the beginning of a new era of peace and stability in the southeast.
