Gunmen Kill Three Vigilante Operatives and Teenager in Umuakah, Imo State




Three vigilante operatives were gunned down by unknown assailants in Umuakah Autonomous Community, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, on Sunday evening. 



A teenage girl, reportedly on an errand, was also killed by a stray bullet during the attack.


In a statement released on Monday, Imo State Police Command's spokesman, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and announced the deployment of a Tactical Squad to pursue the attackers in collaboration with other security agencies.


"The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has strongly condemned the attack and the gruesome murder of the vigilante personnel of Umuakah Autonomous Community by gunmen on Sunday evening, 7th July 2024," the statement read.


"In the wake of the tragic incident that claimed the lives of three gallant vigilantes who were on routine crime prevention patrol and a passerby, the Commissioner of Police has deployed the Command’s Tactical Squad with the available operational resources to go all out in synergy with other security agencies and hunt down the hoodlums responsible for the dastardly act," Okoye added.


CP Aboki Danjuma expressed his sadness over the incident, pledging that the Command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice.



 He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the repose of their souls.


The Commissioner of Police also urged the public, especially Njaba residents, to provide any information that could help apprehend the attackers.
