The Chief Political Adviser and Head of the Political Bureau to the Government of Imo State, Chief Perry Opara, has commended the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima, for his bold and truthful appraisal of the leadership qualities of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State.
Vice President Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the official flag-off of the airlifting of Muslim pilgrims to the Holy Land on Friday, 9th May 2025, at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, had described Governor Uzodimma as a truly detribalised Nigerian who consistently fights for the interest of his people.
In his remarks, the Vice President called Governor Uzodimma a nationalist whose leadership transcends religious and ethnic lines. He described him as a valuable asset to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and to Nigeria at large, likening him to a complete football team “a striker, a midfielder, and a strong defender” whose political skill and foresight stand out among his peers.
Chief Opara, reacting to these comments, expressed gratitude to the Vice President for recognising what he described as the undeniable truth about Governor Uzodimma’s style of leadership and performance. He noted that the governor has become a symbol of unity, capacity, and purposeful governance.
Opara drew a historical comparison between Governor Uzodimma and the late Dee Sam Mbakwe, the revered former governor of Imo State. He stated that while Dee Sam achieved much for Ndi Imo by passionately pleading with the Federal Government for support, Governor Uzodimma has demonstrated persuasive diplomacy and unmatched administrative capacity to attract meaningful development and federal presence to Imo State.
“Governor Hope Uzodimma is not only using the tools of dialogue and negotiation, he is also showing rare courage, competence, and influence that have repositioned Imo State in national discourse,” Opara said.
He emphasised that under Governor Uzodimma’s leadership, Imo State has become a preferred centre for national functions, drawing the attention and participation of prominent personalities from all parts of the country, despite the daunting security challenges the state has faced in recent years.
Opara concluded by affirming that Governor Uzodimma’s brand of inclusive leadership, grounded in performance, diplomacy, and unity, continues to endear him to Nigerians across all divides. He called on the people of Imo State to remain supportive of the governor’s administration, noting that more positive transformation is on the way.
