
Abala Autonomous Community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State witnessed a moment of pride and celebration as Dr Peggy Okodogbe, nee Ezinne Ekwenye, extended a generous hand to outstanding secondary school students in her hometown.
Dr Okodogbe awarded a cash gift of ₦150,000 each to the best performing SS3 students in the community, a gesture aimed at easing the financial burden associated with external examinations and school expenses. The presentation was made on her behalf by Rev. Chinedu Ekwenye of the Great Hope for the Underserved Foundation.
Speaking during the presentation, Rev. Ekwenye explained that the financial support was specifically intended to help the beneficiaries pay their WAEC fees and outstanding school bills, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their academic progress.
The students, visibly excited and grateful, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the timely intervention, describing it as both encouraging and motivating as they prepare for their final examinations.
The traditional ruler of the community, HRH Exe Nwokenne Chimaeze commended Dr Okodogbe for her generosity and unwavering commitment to education. He described her gesture as a shining example of selflessness in community development, praising her for remembering her roots and investing in the future of Abala children.
Dr Okodogbe, a proud daughter of the community, also reaffirmed her commitment to education by pledging to support the best students in Abala Community on a yearly basis, a promise that was warmly received by community members.
The event concluded on a spiritual note as Rev. Ekwenye took time to share the message of the Gospel with the students and attendees, leading several of the children in a moment of faith and reflection.
For many in Abala, the gesture was more than financial support it was a powerful statement of hope, encouragement, and belief in the potential of the next generation.
