Breaking News: 2027 Election Impossible Without Peter Obi on Ballot, Obioha Warns

The Leader of the Njiko Igbo Forum, Reverend Dr Okechukwu Christopher Obioha, has cautioned that Nigeria could face serious challenges in conducting the 2027 general election if NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi is excluded from the presidential ballot.

Obioha made the statement while reacting to the recent judgment of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.

The court, presided over by Justice Isah Dashen, ruled that an earlier judgment affected the interests of the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which claimed ownership of the logo adopted by the NDC. The judge held that the PMP was not joined in the initial suit despite its claim over the disputed logo.

Speaking on the development, Obioha expressed dissatisfaction with the state of Nigeria's judiciary, alleging that conflicting court decisions had eroded public confidence in the judicial system. He further accused the current administration of undermining the independence of the courts.

According to him, many Nigerians no longer see the judiciary as a dependable institution capable of safeguarding democracy and ensuring justice.

He argued that the judiciary had become weakened by political influence, claiming that court pronouncements on political matters no longer command public trust.

Obioha maintained that any attempt to prevent Peter Obi from participating in the 2027 presidential election would create a major political crisis.

"If Peter Obi is prevented from appearing on the ballot in 2027, there will be no election. This is not a threat but a warning based on what I believe will happen. You may call it a prophecy because I am a reverend, but Nigerians should take it seriously," he said.

He also declared that Nigerians had become frustrated with the country's political system, insisting that citizens were weary of the current state of governance and demanding meaningful change.

Obioha concluded by stating that the nation was at a critical point and urged leaders to protect democratic principles to avoid deepening political tensions ahead of the 2027 general election.
