Isu House of Assembly Primary: Aspirant, Atata Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot To Manipulate Results

A fresh controversy has emerged within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Imo State following allegations of irregularities surrounding the party's House of Assembly primary election for the Isu State Constituency.

One of the aspirants, Comrade Iheme Cyprian Atata, has petitioned the national leadership of the party, alleging that the outcome of the primary election conducted in Isu Local Government Area was manipulated despite his resounding victory at the polls.

In the petition addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Atata claimed that he secured the highest number of votes cast by electorates during the exercise and was openly acknowledged by party members as the winner before a different result was allegedly announced.

The aspirant further accused the NDC Chairman in Isu Local Government Area, Hon. Modestus Nwosu, of issuing multiple result sheets for the same election. He described the development as an abuse of office and questioned how a single primary election could produce three different sets of results.

Atata also cited the existing zoning arrangement in Isu Local Government Area, arguing that the 2027 House of Assembly seat is expected to be occupied by a candidate from the Ishi-Isu clan. He maintained that, being an indigene of Isunjaba in the Ishi-Isu bloc, he remains qualified to benefit from the arrangement.

The petitioner highlighted his long-standing membership of the NDC, commitment to the Obidient movement, business investments and political experience, insisting that he possesses the capacity to secure victory for the party in the constituency election.

According to him, he defeated four other aspirants through grassroots mobilisation and engagement with electorates.

He alleged that while other contenders scored 106, 104 and six votes respectively, he recorded the highest number of votes cast in the primary election.

Atata, therefore, appealed to the national leadership of the NDC to intervene in the matter and officially recognise him as the party's candidate for the 2027 Imo State House of Assembly election, expressing confidence in his ability to defeat the candidate of the ruling party in the constituency.
