The Director of Administration and General Services (DAGS), Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area, Mrs. FBN Onyegbe, has urged staff of the council to disregard false rumours making the rounds on social media and in the society, assuring that there is peace in the local government.
Mrs. Onyegbe gave the assurance on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, while addressing the entire members of staff of Ngor-Okpala Local Government during a general meeting.
The DAGS called on workers to return fully to their official duties, stressing the need for punctuality, commitment and dedication to work.
She warned that it was no longer “business as usual,” urging every member of staff to take their responsibilities seriously.
She also informed the workers that the Imo State Local Government Service Commission has commenced a tour of all 27 Local Government Councils in the state. She therefore advised staff to avoid actions that could create unnecessary problems for them, particularly during the ongoing inspection.
Mrs. Onyegbe emphasized the importance of due process in the council system and called for mutual respect among workers. She further directed that leave matters should be channelled through the various Heads of Departments, explaining that annual leave cannot be deferred indefinitely, as workers must either utilize their leave or forfeit it for the year.
The DAGS also directed that staff who abscond from duty should be properly identified and exposed for investigation and appropriate disciplinary action.
The Dags cautioned workers against partisan activities, stressing that any staff member caught engaging in partisan activities would be held responsible for his or her actions.
Mrs. Onyegbe equally directed all Heads of Departments to prepare and implement schedules of duties as soon as possible to ensure effective service delivery and accountability.
Commending the Local Government Service Commission under the leadership of Dr. Nick Obinatu, the DAGS applauded its plans to reintroduce staff training and workshops into the local government system, describing the initiative as a positive development that would enhance workers’ capacity and productivity.
The DAGS also introduced newly appointed members of staff to the council. They include the new Treasurer, Comrade Igwebuike Kyrian; HPM, Mrs. Joe-Nnamani Stella; and Auditor, Mr. Onuoha Emeka.
Responding to the address, the Chairman of the NULGE branch, Comrade Emmanuel Echereozor, on behalf of the entire staff, thanked the management for its efforts and appreciated the workers for their contributions to the council.
He advised members of staff to sit up, remain committed to their duties and avoid actions that could expose them to disciplinary measures, especially at a time when the Local Government Service Commission’s tour of councils is ongoing.
