A mild drama unfolded in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday as party agents demanded a recount of ballot papers before voting could commence in the ongoing governorship election.
The agents reportedly raised concerns over the number of ballot papers supplied to their polling location, alleging that the quantity available was less than the 594 they were informed had been delivered.
In a video shared by Channels Television, the agents were seen insisting that the ballot papers be counted again to confirm that the number tallied with the expected figure.
One of the agents questioned the quantity presented at the polling unit, saying, “If you count it again, I’m sure it won’t be up to 100,” while insisting that officials had earlier stated that 594 ballot papers were supplied.
An official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the location reportedly explained that the discrepancy was due to an error during the initial counting.
However, the agents insisted on another count, warning that voting would not begin unless the ballot papers were confirmed to be 594.
“Count again and if it doesn’t complete, we won’t vote,” the agents insisted.
Meanwhile, tension was also reported at AUD Primary School, Atile, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area of the state, where security personnel intervened following a disagreement among voters and party agents.
The incident reportedly followed protests by some voters over the alleged clustering of party agents around the voting area.
An Accord Party agent, Ajayi Ayodele, alleged that some All Progressives Congress (APC) agents were monitoring voters as they cast their ballots.
The allegation reportedly raised concerns at the polling location, prompting security operatives to intervene and restore calm.
Following the intervention, voting continued at the polling unit without further reported disruption.
