GEDA Poised to end poverty in Nigeria, sets for inauguration of Imo State Chapter By : Everest Ezihe



Worried by the rapid increase of criminal activities in Nigeria as occasioned by high level of poverty and unemployment among the populace,  Global Entrepreneurial Development Agenda (GEDA), a Non Governmental Organization, NGO says they are poised  to eradicate poverty among Nigerian masses through job creations and self reliance empowerment programmes.

Prof. Mrs. Mercy Ada Mere (Agu Nwanyi) who's the Director General of the NGO said this at the conference room of  the organization's Secretariat at No 7 Agu Ironsi Street  Owerri, Imo State  while briefing Journalists on their elaborate plans to inaugurate the organization  in  the state this Friday at the Club House of Rock View Hotels, Owerri.

Ada Mere informed that the organization which is barely one year old in the state has so far trained over 600 Imolites in various  skills of entrepreneurships like fishery and poultry, animal husbandry, production of detergents and soaps, house hold items, operating P.O.S Machines and businesses, tailoring, laundry Services, apiculture, animal husbandry, bakery, catery etc.

She pointed out that efforts have been made to empower all those trained by the NGO to be employers of labour and job creators as a strategic means of eradicating poverty in the state and instilling the spirit of entrepreneurship among the youths, noting these as their mission and vision.

The Director General also informed that His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Governor of Imo State has shown interest to grace the occasion as Special Guest of Honour noting the NGO's goals as key in his administration's Shared Prosperity mantra  while Hon. CB Williams, the Frontline candidate of APC for Owerri Federal Constituency in the forthcoming elections will be Chairman of the occasion.

She further assured that the state Commissioner of Police will also attend the occasion as among the dignitaries expected, while expressing satisfaction that the NGO has been deeply planted in the 27 Council Areas of the State as they have perfected plans to ensure its establishment in all the autonomous communities in the State.

Ada Mere who's also a mother and reverred politician in the country passionately appealed to various levels of government, corporate organizations and wealthy individuals to attend the historical maiden inauguration and as collaborative partners in progress assist the Non Governmental Organization, in their committed vision of eradicating poverty and unemployment in Nigeria.
