BREAKING: Major IED Attack Foiled in Lagos—Police Urge Immediate Public Vigilance

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) successfully foiled an attempted Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in Lagos on July 31, 2024.

The incident occurred along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja, where the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit discovered and safely detonated the device.

In light of this event, the NPF has issued a public alert urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or objects to the nearest police station.

"All members of the public are urged to stay alert and be aware of their surroundings, reporting any unusual or suspicious behaviour," stated the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. He emphasized the importance of not touching or moving unfamiliar objects, instead advising to keep a safe distance and notify the police immediately.

The Inspector General of Police commended the EOD personnel for their expertise and quick response in neutralizing the threat.

The NPF is actively investigating the source of the IED and aims to dismantle the plans of those responsible.

The police highlighted the intentions of the individuals involved, noting that the device was planted to cause significant harm to property and innocent citizens.

The NPF reassured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property, and emphasized the crucial role of community cooperation in preventing such threats.
