Anusiem Declares for Okigwe South Federal Constituency Seat, Promises Development

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Anusiem Oji James, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Okigwe South Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

The declaration ceremony was held on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at the residence of  Dr. James Anusiem Compound, Umuoshi, Avutu in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.

The event attracted party leaders, stakeholders, youth groups and supporters from across the constituency who gathered to witness the official unveiling of his ambition to represent Okigwe South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Anusiem stated that his vision is to bring visible development to the constituency through improved road networks, quality education and critical infrastructural development.

According to him, his aspiration is driven by a desire to introduce a new wave of development that will transform the lives of the people of Okigwe South Federal Constituency.

He noted that it is time to show the right direction through leadership that prioritises long term investments capable of benefiting both the present generation and generations yet unborn.

“If you permit me, I will go and bring the real dividends of democracy to our constituency. I have come to bring power closer to the people,” he said.

The aspirant also expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket, stating that whether through direct primaries or consensus, he believes he has the capacity to represent the constituency effectively.

Introducing the aspirant to party faithful, Hon. Alex Mbakwe described Anusiem as a round peg in a round hole, noting that he is a man of integrity and character.

According to him, the aspirant is known for keeping his promises and maintaining respectful relationships with people.

He therefore urged party members to support him and consider him for the party’s ticket to fly the APC flag in the forthcoming election.

Also speaking, the Chairman of APC in Obowo Local Government Area, Hon. Tony Osuagwu, alongside other Local Government Area party chairmen, described the aspiration as a positive development.

They noted that it would be a welcome development for an Obowo son to occupy a higher political position.

However, the party leaders emphasised that the gathering was not convened to adopt any particular aspirant but to encourage all interested candidates to work hard to secure the party’s ticket.

They urged aspirants to consult widely, use their contacts effectively and follow due process in their political engagements while assuring that the party would remain united and support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.

In his remarks, the APC Zonal Chairman for Okigwe Zone, Hon. Chike Dan Hasan, assured the aspirant and other stakeholders that the party would provide a level playing ground for all aspirants during the selection process.

He emphasised that the party would ultimately support whoever emerges as its flag bearer and described Anusiem as a committed party member.

Similarly, the APC Women Leader for Okigwe Zone, Lady Jacinta Ukoha, advised the aspirant to remain focused and committed to his political ambition while praying that God would grant him favour.

Present at the declaration were party faithful, stakeholders and the three Local Government Council Chairmen from Obowo, Ihitte Uboma and Ehime Mbano, among other political leaders from across the zone.

Okigwe South Federal Constituency comprises Obowo, Onuimo and Ihitte Uboma Local Government Areas of Imo State.

The declaration marks the beginning of political consultations and mobilisation by the aspirant ahead of the forthcoming elections.
